Yeah, I agree. But my point was, the Spider-Man vs. Firelord thing wasn't a one-off stupid writer thing. They did it completely on purpose, as a conscious decision to up his ranking among marvel superheroes. Even the issue itself hints at this (he thought only the avengers could deal with firelord, but by the end of the issue he beat him alone).

Not much, I don't think. The comics under that righting staff were mainly hampered from showing much interesting stuff because they all had to be "Secret Wars II" related.
Of note, during a couple issues later he managed to withstand continuous blasts from Zarathos without being put down, and injure him with punches.
