Well, hardly. He left the Jedi because the Senate was corrupt or something... We can sort of make out that he left Jedi order because it's under the inlfuence of a Sith Lord (and we still don't know exactly what that means, other than some evil guy). What exactly that has to do with his position in the Jedi Order (which we know from the novel was a fairly esteemed position) is not clear either...

He's clearly playing a game, pretending not to belong to Sidious, but to lead the Separatist movement... So we have to conclude that Dooku suggests he left the Jedi order because it's corrupt and led by a Sith and decided to join the 'good' separatists... He even suggests QGJ would have joined, even though QGJ battled the TF (part of the separatist movement) as bad guys in TPM... yeah, right. Very credible not...

But we don't learn anything from Dooku's real motivations because he belongs to Sidious. He just delivered a cleverly constructed story. We find out at the end of AOTC that he is Sidious' new apprentice and that he is the one planning the war for Sidious.

So why did he leave the Jedi Order?? Because the Senate was under the influence of the Sith Lord he decided to serve???? That doesn't make sense other than it being a fake story to OB1. Ergo, we know nothing still.

Indeed so- that AOTC scene is just his fake motivation he gave to Obi-Wan. We never actually get the deal of what made him join the Sith, seeing as by doing so he was massively adding to and taking advantage of that corruption, so that's hardly a reason.

I am still surprised Dooku didn't blow Siduous' identity to Anakin when Palpy ordered Anakin to kill Dooku. I mean, why not? Screw the bastard.

Dooku deserved a lot more in general actually.

Oh absolutely.

I was sad to see they deleted the library scene where the librarian identiefied him as one of the Lost Twelve... In the book that was pretty good. It made Dooku a grand old man, someone to be reckoned with. Now he was just an unknown Dracula/Gandalf dude.

If you like analysing films (which I do), you look into it closer. If we just look at the entertainment value, fine... let's put Star War in the category of Notting Hill, The Devil wears Prada and the Steven Seagal movies:

WHAT? NO! Thats apples and oranges. 😠

😉

Make up your mind, JP... 😉

I look at it this way. He left the Jedi order 10 years ago to join sidious amd take the idenity of syfodias and to get the clones ordered amd to become more powerful than any Jedi by using the dark side.

Perhaps... that's a lot of speculation though, but a possible scenario.

However, that leaves with one crucial missing element that makes him a character: morivation... In other words: we don't know anything, we don't get him.

He left the Jedi Order 10 years ago...and 10 years ago is when the clones were ordered.

Many will say his motivation was Qui-Gon's (Dooku's padawan) death, but if that's so...why did he join up with the man who basically had Qui-Gon killed? And so soon?

Good point. It all gets kinda screwy when you start looking into it.

There seems to be a correlation between Dooku's departure from the Jedi Order.. (the movie doesn't mention when he left, does it?), but that's all we have. It could have been that Palpy seduced him to the Dark Side to get access to the Jedi archives and communication systems... But even though OB1 does some kind of detective story, he never finds out.

I don't believe it's said in the movies, but the official novelization...but I could be wrong. Either way, we are led to believe that Dooku is Sifo-Dyas, which would place him at Kamino 10 years ago to order the clones.

Yeah I know... But what the relevance is of that bit of information is, I don't really know.

It just doesn't make sense, to me, in the context of the rest of the story. Why did Dooku turn? When exactly?

indeed... And why do we not get this info clearer? And if Dooku pretended to be Syfo-Dyas and ordered the Clone Army, how does that affect the story?

It doesn't, really. So there was no need to mention it, especially since we never get clarification in the story.

Nope... another failed opportunity...

This is basicaly a big, giant piece of plot who was simply forgotten somewhere between the making of the 231 and the 232 CGI jedi

Technically it wasn't forgotten. When palps is revealed as sidious in ep3 you can piece it all together.

We get some scraps of half developed plot points... that was his point.

I thought it was because he thought the Senate had become corrupt and impotent (controlled by interest groups) and the Sith Lord was only an outward justification. Maybe I looked too far into his words?

I was under that impression, as well. We get a half-truth in AoTC but get the complete picture in EP III.
