Democratic Congresswoman And Entourage Shot At Public Event

This is all the info available so far. Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot point blank in the head at a public event at a grocery store. Twelve other people were also shot.

Is it confirmed?

I haven't heard of her before, but her stances on the wikipedia page seem respectable.

CNN spoke to Jason Pekau, an employee at a nearby Sprint Store who witnessed the shooting and remained on the scene. Pekau reported that he heard around 15-20 gunshots and believed there to be around six bodies, though he could only see two to three on the ground.

according to a video interview with an eye-witness, the shooters are still at large too. apparently this guy saw her moving as they put Giffords on a stretcher

EDIT2: this is in contrast to NPR, who has reported she is dead (though later says he condition was unknown) and reports the suspect was tackled and taken into custody

I hope she survives (or that she hasn't actually been harmed), but I guess with "point-blank in the head" it is unlikely.

Of course we don't know if that had anything to do with it, but it's is undeniable that those right-wing nutjobs like Palin, Beck and Limbaugh incite violence with their hate speech.

She's been threatened and her office has been vandalized before and they're looking at the healthcare and immigration reform positions as catalysts. The really sad thing about this is that assassinations work. Hence why presidents haven't taken and real risks since Kennedy.

NPR is reporting that Giffords is dead.

Well, typically unless the bullet grazes one of the harder bones such as the brow, it's a fatal injury. And yeah, it's been confirmed by pretty much everyone. 12 people shot, 3 dead on the scene, 3 more dead at the hospital, Giffords also dead.

EDIT: CNN is now saying law enforcement has confirmed Giffords is dead.

now conflicting reports: apparently MSNBC is reporting Giffords is in surgery EDIT: PBS also reporting this

EDIT: though most reports still say she is dead, it was apparently a hospital spokesman who said she was in surgery, and I'm basically just posting people's twitter feeds, so I'll wait for some more links...

Well you know, you have a Jewish Democratic Congresswoman taking supposedly controversial positions in a state where the Governor is conducting her own death panels and blaming democrats and where the National Socialist Movement dominates the Republican Party. A Party that has members in power despite repeated violations of the 14th Amendment in the way they have aided and abetted radical domestic terrorist movements and threatened their opponents with death.
