Democratic Congresswoman And Entourage Shot At Public Event

From the NYT:

Her condition was unknown. She was taken to University Medical Center in Tucson, the trauma center for the area, about 10 miles away. NPR and CNN reported that she had been killed, but Darci Slater, a hospital spokeswoman, said that Ms. Giffords was in surgery.

...

Correction: January 8, 2011

An earlier version of this article misstated Gabrielle Giffords's condition. While several news reports had said she had died on the scene, a hospital spokeswoman said that the congresswoman was undergoing surgery.

there are always conflicting reports with this "as-it-happens" stuff. hell, 90% of the 9/11 conspiracy theories depend on it

EDIT:

the globe and mail has raw video of the aftermath:

EDIT: ABCnews is saying the husband has now confirmed she is in surgery, trying to find a decent link...

Report-one of the victims was a federal judge.

a congressional aide was killed...

so, a congresswoman, an aide and a federal judge attacked... wouldn't this be one of the largest acts of political violence in, at least modern, American history?

"PS. On the other hand, I call on her and the other children of Abraham to refudiate the killing of our lord Jesus Christ don'tcha know! Wouldn't that just be a GAS? To my supporters, DEATH PANELS!!! RELOAD! RELOAD!"

You said political violence. I interpreted that as politically motivated violence, not as how many politicians were killed in one day.

ok, but seriously, how the **** do you get away with making a map of politicians, with cross-haris targeting them, and then saying "take it back, don't retreat, reload!"?

like, how does this happen? I want to just conclude that americans are crazy.. but that doesn't seem right...

I meant more the latter, idk, "assassination with the largest body count" or something

Um, that's minor. Look at the last 20 years. Look at G Gordon Liddy telling his listeners how to kill federal agents. Look at Sharon Angle encouraging her supports to murder Harry Reid. Allen West encouraging his supporters to violently rebel etc.

Classical fascism- oppression at the bottom, lawlessness at the top.

Now for more shitty news. Your wife gets shot and your in space. That really sucks.

Palin just took down her website that had the map on it

did these people hold office at the time? maybe its just your political culture. I can't imagine anything like that here, there is a national inquiry if someone calls another politician a bad name.

zing

Palin doesn't hold office but a lot of those other people like Rick Perry and Steve King did hold office and currently hold office.

Because the idea of punishing people for incitement to violence makes Americans feel like they're suppressing basic civil liberties.

He's Canadian, he's not familiar with "Managed democracy".

We also don't have the one advantage that a constitutional monarchy offers- When the government becomes crazy, the queen dissolves it.

I suppose, but isn't there even a matter of "tact"? like, even if we don't think it is illegal, it is clearly in poor taste

ha! thats a "grass is always greener" scenario right there. We ain't no utopia

oh, we are going to have to agree to disagree there my friend.

This unfortunately should not be very surprising. It has been building for a long time.

When you have people like Glenn Beck stirring anger towards the government for ratings and money, Palin putting crosshairs over people that she disagrees with, and Senate candidates saying that second amendment remedies are on the table if you are unhappy with the way representatives are doing their jobs, there is only one destination.

Looks like the guy was really just insane. I've seen links to his YouTube account, it's got videos about mind controllers and stuff.

He's a redneck who hates the govt, in other words, a younger version of McVeigh.
