Actually, it is not a made up theory. It was confirmed by both Scott and Lindelof. They toned it down from the original intention as to not beat the viewer over the head with it (to paraphrase Scott). But, yeah, it is all but obvious what they were trying to portray there...with the timing and dialogue.

Sorry...but it's ONLY OBVIOUS once you read all the pre & post interviews & articles for Prometheus. I don't think mentioning or hinting that Christ was an Engineer would've been "beating the viewer over the head" with that point...if anything it would've made the movie/storyline more intriguing.

Sorry, but it was obvious to me the exact moment they discussed the timing in the film. Some people have to have a plot spoon-fed to them: I don't. Look at me, I'm a literary and theatric hipster. 🙂
