Indeed, Anglomir, and the difficulty to cover the ground in one go is 100. You roll an 800... giving you a 25! You get across.
Two ragged men emerge from the rocks to confront you. They bear axes. Dunlendings! Well, you are in the hills...
-
Menelacar, you are free! And another attack has completely missed you. Bit rubbish, this ambush! That trap was poor quality too.
(You both just passed standard difficulty Manoeuvre rolls)
Palidan- you find a number of other similar bloodstains nearby. No trail, but lots of initial spillages. It's animal blood (though Ellotheil would have to tell you that).
Someone has been hunting around here- and without much care.
-
Menelacar runs up and over! His Manoeuvre roll is a 95 which makes for a perfect 100! He's going to take it over this turn as well.
The two of them go for you with their axes, Anglomir. They are unarmoured so you'll drop them fast but they move before you.
(remember you can nominate who to use your shield against; it defaults to your attack target and cannot be used against rear attackers)
These are level 1 Dunlendings- just scavengers, really, not having clocked you as a real danger. Their offensive skill is 35.
The first goes for you rolling a 54. You have a defence of 5 plus 25 for your shield, making it a 24. That;'s going nowhere! You dodge it easily.
However, before Menelacar gets there, the other one gets in on your flank, giving him +15. He rolls a 19... so that was not much good to him. You jostle back slightly and his clumsy shot misses.
The other two have given up on their rubbish axe throwing and are moving towards you! They will be there in two turns.
Anglomir now moves forward and makes his attack. Hmm. He rolls 94 over a skill of 69, which is 163. Ugh! That maxes the result- a 30E. Seems like when this is the real thing rather than a melee, you are on form Anglomir! Let's roll the critical for fun. 37 rolled, +20 as it was an 'E'... goes to the forearm. Yeah, you just hacked his arm off and he is down and dying.
Had this been a playful melee, Anglomir would have smiled smugly at such a blow. As it is not, he instead moves on quickly from the dying hillsman and turns on the man that tried to flank him. He pushes him back with his shield then goes at him with his steel.
He trusts that Menelacar can handle those arriving.
An inflicted critical does not score as much as a received critical, but remember to note it all in the record- at the end of the fight if you prefer.
Sadly you won't score much for level 1 kills any more- especially for Dunlendings, as you have killed them before (remember, you get more xp the first few times you kill an enemy type).
Ok, well, I assume Menelacar- limping somewhat but somehow having powered through- enters the fray! Which will make this rather nasty. The Dunlending still moves first but Anglomir is facing him now.
He rolls... an 02. 'Oh dear', as they say. He almost cuts his own head off with that swing. I'll give Anglomir +10 to his roll.
Anglomir rolls an 83, which is much happier. That's pretty much maxed it again so let's roll for the E critical! 32... which goes up by 20 for a 52 which is the arm again! You cut off his arm as well! Vicious!
Menelacar was just coming to broadside him but it looks like that part of the fight is over. But now you each face another Dunlending scavenger...
