So according to Gail Simone's twitter-

"On Wednesday of last week, new Batgirl editor Brian Cunningham informed me by email that I was no longer the writer of Batgirl. It is baffling and sad, I will probably have a statement later today or maybe tomorrow. "

This is sad for a very very good writer.

Didn't read her new 52 stuff, but she has put out some classic stuff like BoP, Secret Six (even though she jobbed King Shark like no ones business, it was great) etc etc.

Though I can say that Babs only had a purpose as Oracle.

But I imagine a lot of people will be quite surprised to see me take over the writing chores on this particular property. Been having a (surprisingly) fun time with it so far."

-From Jim Starlin's Facebook account.

DC sometimes make's me wanna bang my head against a wall.

Liefield got 3 friggin books when the New 52 began.
Then they fire Simone (via e-mail no less - really classy)

And now they dig up Starlin?
Why?
Do we really need another Darkseid clone?

I just hope he doesn't get anywhere near the New Gods.
Though I have no faith in DC's decisions whatsoever.

Ah, Gail is a cool writer who actually cares to develop her characters, I really wanted her to write World's Finest, but I suppose that sh_tty comicbook is beyond redemption now ermm

Didn't Gail more or less retcon it with a tongue in cheek comment by like Huntress or something?

I recall her making comments about the scene on cbr, but an actual retcon, that too via the Huntress herself, I doubt it.

I'm not looking forward to anything Starlin writes, tbh. His last stint in DC left a terrible taste in my mouth (referring to Rann-Thanagar Holy War.)

It was an average Thanos plot 😛

Exactly.

Imo, the guy needs to get away from the cosmic/omnipotent stuff. He hasn't had a fresh idea since the IG saga. Btw, did anyone else realize the IG saga is like 23 years old now? Holy shit.

The IG saga itself was in a way a recycling of his Captain Marvel storyline about Thanos acquiring the AIM Cosmic Cube and becoming omnipotent, "one with the universe" and all that jazz.

True, but at least the IG saga was far more refined, and very well plotted out/written, overall.

I might be in the minority, but I think most of his projects since then have been utter crap.

I disagree. Majority of that arc saw other characters getting devalued or jobbed to his babies like Warlock and Thanos.

I always found his writing to be sub-par, its just that the settings for his storylines were grandiose space-operas, and using flashy characters created an attractive appeal to his stories. The recycling of the same crap in other main event storylines(like IG and HoTU) set him even lower on the totem-pole for me. His Thanos-fanboyism also tells me who quan's inspiration was as well.

Did you read Rann-Thanagar Holy War? That was some of his worst work yet. It's good for a laugh if nothing else.

Actually Linkara pointed this out in his Cry for Justice review (18.20) that in one of the BoP issues its implied that Hal just got drunk and passed out. 'Well played indeed.'

Nope, but I am not putting any bets on it, lol.

Got it:

Phantom Stranger was alright, not as bad as I thought they would do him, might end up adding it to the pull list. Swamp Thing was good to, though I wonder who they will get as a villian after he takes out the Rot? hmm

Well, this is somewhat good. Looks like Gail won't be leaving DC afterall:

Have also have heard from the higher ups at DC and they have been very kind and have made it clear that things went awry and want...

...other projects from me. So it is going to be a very different year, but things are going to work out, I am convinced. New challenges.

I'd prefer her leaving, honestly; higher odds of her being on a book for a long run.

Still, maybe whatever new projects she's got will be good.

I smell a Secret Six run. She already has plans to release a Plastic Man book with Van Schiver.

Ray Fawkes is taking over a couple of issues of Batgirl until they get a new, longer term writer.

Howard Porter is a genius. Dude had lost the ability to sketch with his right hand due to an accident and then he started sketching with his left hand and now he's doing something like this

Just awesome. Looking at this I can't imagine how someone like liefeld can get a job in comic industry.
