I feel bad for Simone. For my money she's still the best writer of strong female characters in the business. Few writers can write women as being tough and yet vulnerable at the same time (Palmiotti and Gray are the others that come to mind, Morrison too). Her run on Birds of Prey is seminal, and she really does deserve better.

👆

I met both her and Amanda Conner at this year's Chicago Comic Con. They're both really down to earth and awesome workers in the industry. It's a shame. And really, given both the commercial and critical success of the book, it makes no sense.

Given her comment concerning the "women in fridge" bit, maybe editorial wanted her to do something shocking or jarring to Babs or one of her supporting cast members, to which Gail didn't agree with.

DC seems almost polarising at times. They'll give female creators some really decent work, but they'll still let people like Robinson write that stupid "Hal's threesome with two birds of prey" bit.

Lol, I remember that. Happened in "Cry For My Money Back".

Didn't Gail more or less retcon it with a tongue in cheek comment by like Huntress or something?

You'd think that DC, who enjoys overall more popular and well known female characters than Marvel, would be more inclined to treat them well as well as female creators.

i think she did, yeah.

Aye, you would, but... I dunno, tbh. i really don't like this rumour that they want to keep shuffling writers around. Consistency usually makes better comics.

It does seem counter productive, don't it?

I mean, when people think of Geoff Johns, they automatically think of Green Lantern and its related arcs/events, Justice League (JSA too if you want to look back a few years). Morrison's been a definitive Batman and Superman writer for years now. Even Robinson's become an authority (sorta) on the JSA/Earth-2.

Changing up creative teams seems like a hassle for the books and for the creators themselves. Some writers like to plant seeds in their books that won't grow until like two dozen issues in. I'm all for changing creative teams if a book isn't up to par, but doing it just to do it is dumb.

Batgirl needs a change, imo. the book was lacking. Most of the creater changea have been good.

And yet, Batgirl was a critical and commercial success. Obviously, not every book is going to please everyone, but really, I'm baffled as to why they'd want to can Gail.

Logically, their replacement should be able to draw more fans and sell my books than she did, but we'll see.

He's on Smallville.

And yes, I too think he could do a pretty good Batgirl if given the chance 😉

Yeah, but for some reason brian hasnt been on anything solid since his last batgirl run which is ten times better than gails. He should be on two print books and starlin gets a book? Just not fair.

Was it? I know it got good reviews when it first started, but it eventually got average to poor reviews. Even on the boards people have been complaining about it. on cbr, people seem happy about the news.

Agreed.

imo the book was fine, and the early issues were nothing short of excellent. gail is one of the few writers who "got" babs and dick. shrug

Her finally teaming up with Benes again was supposed to be a boost too.

I get that she understands the characters, but the book was still bland. Even her last run on bop was average. Nothing compared to her early work of bop or secret six.

I don't think the book was bland at all, tbh. Maybe it's just me.

Saying it doesn't compare to her early BOP isn't saying very much at all. That book was a classic.

Well, either way I hope starlin doesnt get the book. Brian q deserves it.

I just hope Simone gets something deserving of her talent, and that they don't let Starlin near the New Gods.

Starlin said that hes working on simething that he never worked on before, so new goda is out. Hes never worked on batgirl, though.

Green Lantern.

In all seriousness, though, I do remember seeing some penciled pages for a Shazam/Captain Marvel story Starlin had wanted to write years ago. The plot centered around Billy and Cap having to fight some cosmic uber wizard.

His Batgirl would suck...

Here is the fully colored Action comics 18 cover.

Not bad.

I know, I was just reporting what they said on another board. Green Lantern makes more sense.
