Yeah, it's getting kind of iffy.

So why not Johns' portrayal?

I agree that Action Comics since Grant Morrison left and Superman have been pretty mediocre, but as long as there's one great ongoing series for the character that's more than adequate imo. There was only a short gap between the time Grant Morrison's AC run came to an end and Unchained began so to me it feels like there's been a really good ongoing series throughout, and Grant's AC is probably the most epic Superman story I've ever read, and Unchained has all the makings of a great Scott Snyder mystery. Maybe I'm such a fanboy that I can't help but see the good in both series but imo Grant Morrison's Action Comics and Batman Incorporated have been the two best series of The New 52 and Superman Unchained has the potential to be as good as Batman, Wonder Woman, Animal Man and Swamp Thing.

What's his one great ongoing series? Unchained? Really don't agree, tbh. It's been "okay" at best, to me.

The Superman titles are okay. I like them all to a certain degree, but I'm not being "wowed" by them.

Same. They're still better than what Robinson did on the books.

Action Comics under Grant, and now Superman Unchained. Do you have any particular problems with it or is it more of a case of simply not being wowed by it? There's just so much about the way Scott Snyder tells a story that I'm a fan of and they all seem to be at play here, from great world building and interesting characters to great pacing and intense, epic confrontations.

I actually liked most of Action Comics, even if Grant, as usual, thinks way too big even when he doesn't need to at times.

With Unchained... It's all right. It's better than Robinson's work on the Superman books like I said, I just... I don't know. I don't get excited about it like I do when I see that the latest Aquaman or Justice League is out.

So far it hasn't really impressed me. Snyder can build it up all he likes; I just hope there's a payoff.

Maybe I'm not too fond of how he portrays superman there.

Spoiler:
The First Born did a number on WW and put her on a three day medical coma. When they arrived on New Genesis she collapsed, and it's noted that her internal injuries were pretty severe and life threatening.

In comparison Orion after they arrived wanted to immediately go back for Lennox, but Highfather forbid it.

New Genesis looks amazing and Highfather steals the show.
And Orion (if you also consider Superman 20) seems to be at least stronger and more durable than WW.

👆

Orion is blatantly superior.

Definitely looks pretty cool. I like the interpretation of Highfather.

I got that, but I was asking "why".

Its mainly because in Justice league he comes across as a dumb teen driven by his hormones and gets beat up to show how badass the villain is.

Looks really good. As a whole, Wonder Woman has been pretty good thus far, and introducing the New God mythos into the story will only make it that much better.

That said, I dig DCnU Highfather already. The battle armor and slight deaging to his character are nice touches-- he seems far more battle-savvy/war-ready than his previous incarnation(whose peacefulness came off as hippy-esque at times.) Not to mention that his verbal bashing of Orion was lulz-worthy.

Given Orion's showings so far I agree (like it was pre Flashpoint, IMO)

Also Galan, yeah WW has been really good (best WW I've ever read, but that might be because the Fourth World is one of my favorite comic concepts and cast of characters).

New Guardians look damn good. 😎
