Nah, I think the amount of homosexuality in the media is generally disproportionate anyway, it's a form of social engineering forcng an issue that shouldn't really be an issue down peoples throats. Generally in comics gay male characters are lisping sissies, in other forms of media the camp homosexual is far more common. Gays in comics is something that has been done to death, do we really want the kind of shock value dialoge the Authority has always used revamped. Midnighter and Apollo have always been a bit carry on, as have the plots they are involved in. They badly even did the confused feelings plot with that Captain America analogue using Apollo as a punch bag years ago.Sometimes gays in comics work, Hellblazer has had some success and so did the Sandman for example. however the dialogue was still shitty and over the top. You don't get this with heterosexual relationship portrayals in comics.
I disagree. The only instance of homosexuality getting disproportionate representation in comics that I can think of is in the Sandman where every other supporting character is gay or Lesbian.
I'm not someone who clamors for Affirmative Action homosexuals, but to say that comics have lots of gay characters is kind of off base. I mean there's a few Lipstick Lesbians like Batwoman and then a few bisexuals like Mystique and Hercules, and then you have people like Northstar who despite being confirmed gay are basically never shown to so much as kiss another man on panel for years and years.
Apollo and Midnighter are one of the few real open homosexual relationships in mainstream superhero comics. I think a lot more people would have their feathers ruffled if you didn't have them as an item as if you did.
Some wild info on Multiversity:
Each world in the multiverse exists as a fictional comic book company on each other world in the multiverse. Each issue of Multiversity will feature one character reading the previous issue of Multiversity. The heroes need to use clues that they find in each other's comics to solve a mystery. The Earth-10 issue starts with Adolf Hitler reading Action Comics #1, and he doesn't much care for it.
Nix Uotan, the last Monitor, has a big role, as you would probably expect.
There will be multiple villains. One of the "villains" is a haunted comic book entitled Multiversity: Ultraa the Unknown #1. The setting for that comic is Earth-Prime (our world). Whenever someone reads it, they become possessed. The seventh (third to last) issue of Multiversity will actually be Ultraa the Unknown. We'll get to read the haunted comic for ourselves. Morrison says it uses captions in a way that was once done in comics but isn't anymore. He describes this issue as his most frightening work yet. He even claims that we'll become possessed when we read it.
There are nine issues total. The first and last issue take place outside the Multiverse, in a cosmic library of comic books called the Multiversity. Each issue will be designed in a different way that reflects the Earth it depicts.
I'm going to be picking up Grifter, Stormwatch, Batman, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Frankenstein and Resurrection Man. I really don't want to waste my money on anything written by an artist but I'm tempted to pick up Hawkman since I love the character, going to wait on trades for Batwoman since without Rucka it will mostly be about the art anyway.
EDIT: Going to get Swamp Thing also since it is written by Snyder.
