If you were dozens of times stronger than your friend, as opposed to being simply marginally stronger, all the slight differences in morphology, or even a big experience gap, would not matter at all, you'd be significantly faster.
As for your example, power lifters even without experience, can be competitive with sprinters for short distances, even with a much heavier weight.
Anyway, this was simply a tangent I started on regarding why Superman is fast. He's fast because of his immense physical strength, which is rare in fiction (not many people understand or care about the notion I'm guessing). As opposed to Flash who is fast because his specific power makes him fast.
