Gladiator is one of the untouchables at CBR as for as debates go. The others include Silver Surfer,Sentry,Thanos.
If you go against the " Status Quo", IE arguing for someone to beat the mentioned characters . You will likely attract the attention of the Board Pet/Mod Butt-Buddy: AKA Pendaran.
Which of course would lead to you getting "Mod Warned", with a huge chance to get banned

Really takes me back, to the last detail...

It actually depends on the Gladiator's confidence level at the time.
that idea is very much overplayed and used as an excuse for glads WAYYYYY too often. can you name me a battle he went into where he wasn't confident? can you show me an on-panel incident depicting a sudden 'loss of confidence' that would explain his defeat? the SINGLE time where this was shown was in his first appearance in the FF. and even in THAT case reed was theorizing on the nature of his powers. so, since then, can you (or ANYONE) show a time where his 'confidence' has played a role in any of his battles?
not going off on you specifically galan, but i hear that an awful lot on the forum and i think it is a complete myth (aka, a load of BS). though i'm willing to be educated and shown the error of my ways. 🙂

It's been referenced several times over the years, tbh. Not as many as say, that Superman is a solar battery, but it's been mentioned enough to be considered a definite part of his powerset.
well, maybe YOU can point to a specific time and place? i'm pretty familiar with him and his battles. i know for a fact it never played a role in his battles with thor, hulk, the avengers, supreme, tyrant, the x-men or any other actual battle i have witnessed. i have never seen him go into a battle NOT feeling confident, nor have i seen it stated that his confidence has waned during a battle and as such, THAT is the reason he lost.
i am not being a d!ck pr. i'm genuinely curious about a specific scene (ff issue aside) that depicts the issue clearly.

Oh, when you put it like that. Bleh.
I had misread; I thought you were talking more about his confidence level being an integral part of his powerset rather than it being an excuse for him losing.
The Cannonball instance is the only one that comes to mind, assuming I'm remembering right. I know Cassandra Nova mindraped him to weaken him, but I don't suppose that counts.
But no, unless stated or otherwise alluded to in the comics, getting his shit pushed in can simply be that rather than something excusable.

canonball, eh? i'll have to take another look at that. i don't recall off-hand that his confidence was brought up there, but i could be forgetting.
but yeah, that last bit is what i was getting at, and is the reason why i think that excuse of confidence is nothing more than a myth. were it otherwise, it would be played up more and be depicted as a migating factor for his losses when clearly--imo--it never has been.

I think it was in the narration, but its been a while since i read it.
Yeah, I'd agree with you on that.
The confidence thing was implied during WOK at least twice. Once when he was tricked into believing he was being blasted apart by some sort of particle beam when it was in fact Rocket Racoon holding a mop. The other time was the Nova/Xenith fight. Wasn't Glads, but it seemed to shed some light as to how the strontian power set worked. At least under DnA's interpretation.
