I'm not expecting this movie to be a box office smash. It's gonna achieve it's cult status on dvd release, like Dredd did.

I know the mecha genre isn't that big in the western world, Its more bigger in Japan

but who knows how well this will do.

That thing about someone in Hollywood that's been trying to give Pacific Rim a bad image and is hoping it to flop

someone mentions they were trying to do that with 'Inception' 2 years ago because it wasn't licensed.

i was sold on this movie when i saw the mech carrying a battleship as a sword

And also its Guillermo del Toro....nuff said.

Not just Del Toro, but great actors, great concepts, great art, great everything.

It's actually shaping up to deliver the message that if the Jaeger's fail, humanity is done for.

If this movie doesn't break records then people are stupid.

There are several Jaegers in the film, but they are concentrating on four of them - the American one (Gypsy Danger), the Russian (Cherno Alpha), the Chinese (Crimson Typhoon) and the Australian (Striker Eureka.) But there is a Japanese one too I've seen in promos - Coyote Tango. Wonder why it won't get a focus...

A bunch of darkly rendered CGI robots 'n shit. Even Idris Elba's awesome can't save this. Not even Ron Perlman!!

I really want this movie to be good especially after having to deal with people dissing "The Lone Ranger".

Japan doesn't get focus? Perhaps it's a nod that all those people who want to see Japan get hit hard by giant monsters will get their wish.. In a movie like this it's always good to have a giant robot get it's sh*t pushed in to point out that despite being a big robot it can loose making the stakes seem higher.. So sure the pretty little Japanese robot has a name and possibly a gimmick and here's hoping we get to see it before it gets brutally torn apart by whatever abomination decides to peak it's head out of the ocean.. Then Australia and Russia can mobilize and handle bussiness.

If you actually watched the trailers it is set at night from what some of them have shown

Almost a decade I've been waiting for RIDDICK. No one has been waiting DICK for this. It's been done to death. Just pop in Transformers 1-8, or Battleship, or Godzilla, or Hellboy...

Its not like Riddick is a master piece....haermm
