"So how do you answer that anomaly? The Adelmo that was so careful and artistic about killing Lennah, but then so blatant and careless in those incidents."

"Lennah's murder happened years ago," Gallagher says. "These things were recent. Something about her operation has changed; perhaps a sense of urgency."

"Or a shift in perspective," says Saar. "Adelmo is like some of the most feared Sith Lords of old. Completely egotistical, powerful beyond reason... utterly lacking in interpersonal skills. Everyone she meets is one of dominated by her, killed by her or ends up hating her. Little wonder Kuylen parted ways with her.

"And like those Lords, she has a boundless ambition. Her world won;t be enough for her, Even the Republic., She must have it all- she must dominate every life form known. And, like those Lords, she is cunning and exceptionally dangerous with her planning.

"Yet look at the histories of these Lords- and their fates. So careful and subtle on their rise to power, with all the tricks of the Dark Side behind them. But once in power? Open megalomaniacs, flaunting their power openly- inviting the opposition that always ended up destroying them. Only after billions died, of course.

"But the switch," says Saar, illustrating the point by holding one finger above the other and then inverting them, "between one personality type and another didn't happen [i[after[/i] they came to power..."

"The trait was already there to begin with," Gallagher says. "Else it would not have appeared at all. And most likely started surfacing as they became closer to their goals..."

(For comparison with Palpatine, he went from grandfatherly old politician to 'Yes I'm in the Sith Lord, let's fight!' before actually achieving his goals with the clones and the Senate)

"Well done," says Saar. "Yes, the closer they got, the more like their true selves they became. And if Adelmo is taking the risks you describe, she must be very close indeed."

"Except that does not bring us any nearer to her or what she thinks she is going to find," Gallagher says. "And it puts us on a timer."

"Yes, I know," says Saar. "I knew when you came to see me it could only be because Adelmo is getting close. Soon, she will have what she wants. Adelmo certainly believes the Syphar n Kalar is real. Can you really take the risk of her not finding something REMARKABLY dangerous?

"You have no leads. You have no options. I am ALL you have. We'll see if you can find where the middle of the story was. But I'm the only one that can help you... and you are going to do it my way, or not at all.

"So. We will have no more complaints or snide comments about the way I decide to present my information."

Aurel did not react, but he was sure Saar's last word was at least in part of his own dialogue with the him. His jaw tightened at the thought, but it seemed clear the zabrak was speaking the plain truth: they did need him. That fact disturbed the young swordsman more than he let on.

"I think we can all agree to that," Vera-Kin says coolly. "Can't we, Xeth?"

She offers the renegade Jedi a stern look. Even though Xeth runs the investigation squad that she's a part of, she is still a Jedi Master and his superior.

"Yes," Gallagher says. "We will do as you ask. We can do this with civility."

Gallagher says these things calmly, though wondering Saar somehow knew about his outburst before they turned off the isolation filter.

"Yeah, yeah..." Xeth responds to Vera-Kin more than Saar.

"Very well," says Saar. "Now. I never saw Adelmo again after her time with Kuylen. The last time I saw her is when we discussed the existence of the scrolls.

"Yet... I DID see Lennah again."

"When was that?" Gallagher asks.

"After their original search concluded. I knew if they were successful that he would come to see me."

"Why was that?" Aurel inquires, his arms unfolding and falling to his sides again.

"Because I knew that if they found the Scrolls, they wouldn't have the answers they wanted."

"You mean the location of the Syphar n Kalar," Aurel said, making it a statement rather than a question.

"Nothing is just going to tell you where or what the Syphar n Kalar is," says Saar. "All you can do is find enough clues so that you can deduce its existence yourself. The Scrolls of Bandomino are a record of ancient Sith victories; a very viable source for trying to get more information on what the Syphar n Kalar actually was. If anything, seeing as its only ever recorded use- and a speculated, half-hearted story of a use at that- was in the breaking of a long-lasting planetary siege."

"And that's the fairy tale we all know," Gallagher says. "So they successfully located the Scrolls, then, because you did see Lennah. How did that encounter go?"

"You're not understanding," says Saar. "Adelmo is no idiot. She and Lennah both knew the Scrolls weren't just going to tell them where anything useful was. They were only after clues. But nonetheless- what they found was no good to them. As I knew it wouldn't be."
