Onoki's tougher than Hiruzen imo. The latter was pretty exhaused from a relatively short fight, but Onoki has kept on trucking like a bamf. Not to mention how Hiruzen has apparantly let age cripple him while Onoki is still leading the pack in terms of the Kages.
Onoki is also receiving help in his battle from Gaara and Naruto. Hiruzen took on two of the strongest Kages ever by his self and handled business. Onoki is pretty boss though and has been the most impressive of the kages that are still alive.
Minato would still hand him his arse though. it's between Minato and naruto for who the strongest is in my opinion.

He has the Rinnegan. That means he can do chakra-absorption, gravity blasts, soul ripping, Uzumaki chakra chains*, Asura armor, etc..
*Might or might not be a Rinnegan thing in general or just a Nagato's rinnegan thing, but he has 'em and used 'em to catch Naruto.

Backed into a corner might have been too strong a term then. Losing his cool would be better. Though he seems to try to regain it before the scene cuts away.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. He'd be on the ropes if the Paths were all he had, but he's prolly as powerful as all of them put together.

In all honesty though, he'd be stupid to off-screen KO a combatant that he has teased, hyped, and built up since the early bits of Part 2. I don't remember Kubo being that bad either, but most of Bleach has been forgettable anyway.
Itachi better fail or Madara better get out of it.
Well, Cero Espada is the equivalent...kinda. Less direct hype, more surprise hype(which Naruto has in it's own way with Madara).
Really, one of the main reasons I think Bleach has fallen from the status of good to forgettable is the main characters and the supporting cast switched places after Soul Society. It's kind of ironic cause Chad is a perfect representation of it. Shortly after Soul Society, he was bummed and emo because he couldn't keep up with Ichigo. And...he was completely right. He went to Hueco Mundo, fought a couple dudes, and just fell into oblivion because he couldn't keep up. No one could except for the supporting cast. Ishida and Rukia got the excuse of being fan favorites so thankfully they didn't fall into oblivion. They just became part of the wall paper in the grand scheme of things. Orihime got off similarly but yeah, she isn't a fighter and that's really all that can be said about her.
Though this new arc is showing promise...
