we finally see thanos die however many times but, of course, no one can REALLY die there. we find out he....really never had a clue how to use the IG, or the cube, or....anything else, apparently??! way to demean those previous arcs marvel. 👆
But in a way, Thanos not understanding the IG or the cosmic cube is probably a better explanation of why he always loses when he has these artifacts than Starlin's lame "subconsciously wanted to lose" crap. And given Thanos never seems to really know what he is trying to achieve when he has these things, it makes some level of sense - he just plain doesn't know what the hell he is doing - they do call him the Mad Titan after all.

if that isn't stupid enough, then he fights alongside the guardians against the revengers for what? HOURS, and they can't win. then cap gets the cube and thanos is ALONE against them and he WINS in seconds, off panel??? holy f. and how the hell did he come through rider's gate with drax and quill when rider was keeping him in the cancerverse???o. m. f'n. g.
Yeah a lot of that stuff didn't make much sense really. But given Thanos didn't fully understand how to use the cube, and Quill and Nova only in a rudimentary way, maybe Cap tried to use it for something too big and it just blew up in their faces leaving Thanos the only one standing. Would explain why it all happened so quickly.

i thought thanos was sort of a non-entity in annihilation. :/ he seemed thrown into the series just because it was 'cosmic'. been a long time since i read anything really good with thanos in it. his recent power-up adventure with warlock kinda sucked imo as well, and that was starlin. honestly, all his power ups and failures have just complicated the sh!t out of the character to the point where it seems no one knows just WHAT he is anymore. marvel really should retire him for a while. it was so cool when he was brought back in the ss series, but since then it's been one power up after another and back and forth with his character to the point that he's a mess, frankly.
Agreed, he is something of a mess at the moment. A few years break while they figure out what to do with him wouldn't hurt - they're doing it with Wolverine.
