Dragon Age 3

Well, we already know that Bioware is creating some new IP already. So I imagine that will come out after Mass Effect, and then a DA game? I dunno. They have multiple teams over there these days, so they can simultaneously work on multiple games.

I imagine there will be another DA game within the next 3 years or so.

I didn't know they had another IP in the works.

Oh, yeah they announced it a couple years ago and have been pretty silent about it since then.

An article about it.

Man, I wonder what the new IP is. A take on a Jade Empire like game, or something completely new. I wouldn't mind a modern day-esque RPG in the same vain as Alpha Protocol. Or **** it, an police procedural type RPG where you solve crimes and it works like X-Files.....I just hope it's not another fantasy game.

Sorry guys I was just thinking about the potential for DA as a series. They would be foolish if i may say, if they were to stop making DA games. The franchise could easily take over and rival Final Fantasy as a series if they played their cards right. Morrigan could be written up to make Flemeth and Corypheus combined look like weaklings in comparison. We know that she gave birth to the elder god child in DA origins/Awakenings, but she could follow in Flemeth's footsteps and steal the child's body becoming an elder god herself. Then there is the possibility of her gaining even more power from the Well of Souls, and any other object or items of power that could be written in at some undisclosed future. I can see DA go on for several more chapters. I wonder if they will make it up to 12 or more? The possibilities aren't endless but they certainly have a decent deck to play with. hopefully they will not turn DA into an MMO.

Doubtful. Bioware already has an MMO.

Even though these games have delivered for me in the, gameplay department for the consoles over the years, they have been incredibly lacking with the story ever since the first installment. At this point my feelings are similar to what i feel towards, Mass effect. " if you couldn't correct your failings or misjudgements over the course of one game. Nothing suggest to me that you are going to do otherwise through a third. I couldn't care less less about this series at this point. To me, it's more time investment for nothing.

I do agree that the first game was probably the best in the series and was definitely the best story.

But I wouldn't agree that Mass Effect followed the same path. That series is the much better Bioware series when it comes to narrative.

The first was the best of the series while the second was definitely the worst. The third was pretty awesome and different than the first one really setting up for an interesting fourth game. Solas was one helluva an awesome surprise.

Yep. I loved the third installment as well. It was pretty extensive and filled with so much shit.

Corypheus and Solas. Can't wait to see what's up ahead for the future for dragon age.

Yeah, I will be interested. Not sure if I want Bioware to continue the idea of the open world areas as in 3.

I sometimes enjoy RPG's that are more linear, especially the first one. I felt I got more interested and immersed in that environment rather than the 12 or so huge environments in 3.

It all depends on the story but I do agree I love the linear approach more than an open world like in Skyrim or even Witcher 3. I will probably play through Witcher 3 as I purchased it this next summer I just don't favor gigantic open world approaches to the linear ones.

Witcher 3 does a very good job at being open world. It uses the map very well and still provides an excellent linear experience (well at least regarding the main story line).

The story does use the fetch quest a fair bit. It seems the original guy you need to talk to doesn't have what you need and some other guy has it. It's especially bad near the end of the main mission quest.

Which series do you prefer, Dragon Age or Witcher ?

Dragon Age.

I couldn't even play a few hours into the first Witcher. The second I completed and enjoyed but I thought it wasn't that special and the third I adore.

With Dragon Age, I have completed the first a few times, enjoyed the exp pack, I didn't mind the second and adored the third.

I agree. Dragon Age I played through twice. Witcher 2 I played through twice though didn't enjoy it as much. I've played through all the dragon ages twice but loved the first and the third. The lore is what I crave. I like the witcher verse as it's different it just doesn't compare to Dragon Age to me.

I've been playing through Inquisition for the third time in preparation for Trespasser, which I just bought.

I have to echo the sentiments above. The open world segments of the game really are some of the weakest portions. I hope that the next DA game, and Mass Effect as well, don't go to heavy into the open world direction. It simply doesn't really play to the strengths of Bioware, which is character moments and Lore. Bioware seems to go the way of Ubisoft when it comes to open world environments, treating as a map with a bunch of pretty generic points of interest that only exist to bloat the amount of time spent playing the game, with very few interesting sidequests to be found. This is in stark contrast to The Witcher 3, which has brilliant sidequests throughout the world that are completely missable.

I've found the best way to play DA:I is to basically ignore almost all the sidequests when you get to a new zone, just do the main quests of that zone and nothing else. You end up spending maybe an hour in each zone which is a good amount for what each zone has to offer. Helps with the pacing a lot.

As far as if I want a linear or open world DA game for the next one, I'd prefer if it was both, like DA:I is. What I think the problem with DA:I is is that the ratio is off. They put more emphasis on the open world portion and less on the linear story missions. There's simply more zones than there should be. For the next game I'd prefer if there were more linear story sections, and less open world portions. There's what, 12 open world zones in DA:I? Most of them have a couple interesting things to do and that's it, I'd prefer maybe 6 or so in the next game, but just have those 6 zones fleshed out really well and be made to feel realized. Witcher 3 does this, and it's simply superior for it. As a result the world feels more alive and real.

As far as which series I enjoy more, I'd have to give the edge to Dragon Age as a whole. I've enjoyed all the games in the series. Where with Witcher I didn't like the first game, enjoyed the second a good amount, but loved the third. I think Witcher 3 is better than any of the DA games by a pretty significant amount.

Play through Trespasser ASAP. Solas, Solas, Solas means badass, badass, badass. After you play through it you'll know what I mean.

Unfortunately, it seems that the masses prefer open world games than linear RPG's that Bioware is known for.

I agree on pretty much all points because that's what I felt after playing the game. But I will say that 80% of the areas are very diverse and extremely well made in terms of geometry and art design. The first Dragon Age had pretty open areas and it worked fine. It's just that most of it was filled with interesting side missions and lore instead of DA:I.

I loved Witcher 3 but when I look back, I still think I prefer the first Dragon Age. I was never invested in the "Witchers" universe as I am in Dragon Age and while the side missions were generally pretty fantastic, the main missions didn't have the same oomph as Dragon Age. Bioware knows how to get you invested in a story while I never got that feeling in Witcher. There was never a mission where I was like "HOLY ****".

In the end, Dragon Age is about the stories and lore and Witcher 3 was about being in the universe.
