It got better in the 360 era actually.

But its position still makes it pretty bad. Dpad should be on the edge, with analog sticks towards the center, not the reverse way MS does it. ESPECIALLY on large Xbox gamepads.

Not all of us have massive hands or long thumbs.

The X-box controller is better than PS's IMO. Yes, the placement of the D-pad is annoying for games that heavily rely on it. But, the majority of games do not, and for those the asymmetric analog stick configuration that Microsoft uses is far preferable.

I have both an XBOX 360 and a PS3. I much prefer the PS3 controller over the XBOX one which is a major reason why most of the games I have are on the PS3.

I hate the oversized 360 controller that I have to use batteries for.

And what annoys me is how Microsoft is now pushing their Xinput over Directinput for gamepads hooked up to the PC.

Works with Xbox controllers, but not Sony or others, as Directinput had.

It's essentially the same anti-competitive practices they tried during the browser wars, when they bundled in Internet Explorer with Windows.

There's ways around it, like using a third party program to emulate keyboard presses on a gamepad, but its still a pain to work around that was never necessary before.

But it's not. They just removed on old standard. Even some of their own controllers stopped working.

However, controllers that use Xinput are fine..and it doesn't have to be Xbox controller. You can use a PS4 controller without issues.

And the standard just happens to require the exact same number of buttons as an Xbox controller. Good luck trying to get any "standard controller" from the 90's on up working, as opposed to proprietary controllers.

Directinput worked fine, there was no reason to switch to Xinput.

Really don't get people saying Sony won. Yes, they have first party games but in terms of cheaper access to next gen, Xbox's Series S is $100 less than PS5's Digital Edition and for the price of both originals, it is an equal $500. A lot anticipated Sony would take another dump on MS with a $400 price tag like last time and were gravely mistaken.

Not to mention too now PlayStation is endorsing the $70 games movement: https://gadgets.ndtv.com/games/news/ps5-games-price-70-usd-5000-rs-playstation-5-sony-2296629

The PS5 digital is probably the best bang for your buck console. It’s only $100 more than the Series S but about twice as powerful. It’s as powerful as the normal PS5 just without a disc drive. Very solid price for that.

I think this is the first generation since maybe the original Xbox came out where both consoles are very competitive and attractive right from the start. Both are nicely priced and have something unique to offer. And neither company made any huge screwups out of the gate. Really nice to see.

I’m still not sure which one I will be getting first. I may not get either of them for a while since it was confirmed that the new Horizon game will also be releasing for the PS4. Actually may be a year before I get a new console. I’ll definitely get a PS5 when the new God of War comes out.

I have to assume the digital version of PS5 was pushed to that price due to the Xbox Series S.....

However, I'm getting more and more tired about console shit like this...especially considering Microsoft doesn't seem to care what platform you plays games on.

My favourite arguement is when people are like "oh...MS is screwing up...they are releasing on both platforms...why would I buy an Xbox..just play it on the PC" and somehow not realizing they are using MS Windows......

I'm getting a Series X because why not...probably get a PS5 if Horizons gets good reviews because I loved that ****ing game.

They announced Horizon 2 will be coming out for the PS4 as well. So you can just play it on that instead of buying a new console

Yeah....but if Horizons reviews well, I will want to play it on the new system.

Doesn't really matter, pre-orders sold out extremely quick for PS5...due to shortages (Sony came out saying there is going to less consoles) or demand...it might next year by the time we can start buying it again.

Microsoft just acquired ZeniMax...which includes all of Bethesda.

Was not expecting that!

Hopefully they'll kick Bethesda back into gear and get them working on TES6...

Starfield is before TES6.

Interesting question though, will Bethesda games still get released on other platforms? I have to assume they will be..or atleast the big titles will be.

I would take a bet that smaller companies like Arkane will start exclusives while Bethesda Software and ID Software will be multi-plat.

Apparently it will be on a case by case basis.

I’m expecting them to be Xbox console exclusives from now on. I don’t see MS making this purchase just to have the games going to the competitor’s console. Timed exclusive is probably best case scenario.

Either way, huge play by MS. Pretty unprecedented actually. We’ll see how Sony responds. Rumor is Sony had been looking to buy Konami so maybe we could see that happen.

On the other hand, their competitors money is just as green as anyone else's.

When you make a move like this it’s to sell consoles and improve your brand. I just don’t think we’ll see these games on Playstation. Could be wrong of course.

MS is worth, what, a trillion? To Sony's 45 billion?

They could afford to buy Sony several times over. Guessing only Japanese politics stop it from happening.

MS sees it’s gaming division as something of a side project. They’re not going to spend that much money on it.

But yes if MS wanted to they could just buy all the studios. Doubt they’d be legally allowed to do that though
