I mean, anyone buying Konami could result in it being better than its current state. With Sony though I probably wouldn't like it because of the exclusivity.I'm more so referring to fans who fancy the idea of Sony buying the likes of Square Enix, Capcom, and things so they can have some Japanese monopoly, but they prolly overestimate how much money Sony actually has, compared to like Microsoft anyway.
Sony already had a Japanese monopoly. Xbox might as well not exist in Japan.
This gen is going to be Sony for Jrpgs vs Xbox for western RPGs.
Sony has a good relationship with Kojima. We could see Silent Hills come back from the dead. It’s not like Sony doesn’t know how to make good first party titles.
Kojima is just one person. You need a full dev team for a game like this and Konami doesn't seem to have the required talent to make a good game currently. Sony would forced to hire new employees to groom or strip personal from their other studios which would kinda defeat the purpose of buying an already existing studio. You don't buy a company merely for its IPs you also buy it for it's talent and infrastructure. It's just a terrible decision.
Sorry one more post since I can’t edit.
Don’t get me wrong. I think it would be wiser for them to just buy the specific IPs if they could. Or just kind of rent them similarly to the Spider man situation in the MCU. And rumor is that’s something Sony had been exploring. There were rumors that Sony was going to announce a new Silent Hill game made by Kojima studios at their showcase last week but it didn’t happen. But it still could.
Buying Konami as a whole would be something of a last resort I imagine but it wouldn’t necessarily be a lost cause or anything.
Sony would own the IPs. They could just give them to already established studios under their umbrella. They could just give Kojima’s studios the Silent Hill IP.
Which would be a terrible decision. They would be far better off having their studios work on their own IPs they already own or new ones rather than spend billions on Konami's.
Either way. Much better than these IPs ceasing time exist like they basically are now.
Good for us, sure. Not for Snoy.
Plus they’d be making money from the slot machines that Konami currently makes their money off of while restructuring Konami. They’d have a lot of options and those IPs are worth a good amount. Of course it would depend on what the price would be.
Which is why I specified early on that it's a terrible decision "if their primary purpose is to enrich their video game division". If Sony wants a pachinko division, then Konami is a nice investment.
Earlier today, it was only an hour after businesses opened and the Series X sold out so friggin fast. Maybe too fast! Called multiple GameStop stores to ask just how many they had up for pre-order out of curiosity and they say 10. Ten? That's...not a lot. I'm sure there'll be more up eventually but...10? I've never pre-ordered consoles so I dunno what it was like racing to get the 360 and XONE in their day one infancy but I'm pretty sure 10 is too short a supply to hype everybody in your area about.
I got one through the Microsoft store...it took about 40 minutes or so.
I tried through Best Buy, got the console in the cart but I could never buy the damn thing.
I was also trying through the Microsoft store but after 2 minutes, I thought I added it to cart but the website essentially broke down. After 45 minutes of trying through Best Buy, I tried the Microsoft store again and was able to get to the order screen...ordered one...got blocked because my cart already had one already to go...and then was able to pay for it.
I haven't brought a console from a physical store since the Wii. Both Xbox One and Xbox One X were much smoother...but it's a different time now...I wonder how much of this was due to scalpers and bots.
But though..nothing beats trying to get a Wii...my friend had no issue getting one at launch (I don't think the demand was as great as the PS5 and Xbox Series X)...but once the Wii started to go popular..it was ****ing nuts. I remember waiting outside Future Shop (Canadian store owned by Best Buy) 3-4 months are release...nothing beats that.

Why does MS find it hard to name it simply the Xbox Two?
