Current Gen Console Discussions (PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch (Pro?) OFFICIAL THREAD

Probably a good idea, actually. I mean, what were they going to say? "Hey guys, we still exist. Mario and Zelda will come out eventually." Might as well let Sony and MS duke it out while Nintendo quietly does whatever they're going to do, would be a waste of time to even attempt to compete this year.

Here a video by Sessler on Nintendo not having a press conference at E3 '13. He makes some valid points..

They are having a conference, just a smaller, more targetted one. I also make a point to ignore Adam Sessler when I can. There's a strong line up of software on the way, and focusing on that for E3 actually makes the most sense of any possible action, lol.

I'm not surprised, and I don't see that as being necessarily a bad thing. The big three press conferences are nearly always complete garbage that don't show off anything in the first place, and since they aren't launching new hardware, why bother?

The Nintendo Directs have been a good way for them to announce new stuff so far, and since one of their events is at the same time their press conference normally is it likely won't be much of a change anyway - just not the big flashy show that they usually are. They can actually concentrate on the important stuff instead of being like "okay we must be as big as possible".

The xbox hasn't been officially outed yet, so all that is still technically rumors, but I think its going to be pretty accurate. 'Always Online' is looking more and more likely, there's standalone version for $499/a $299 version that requires a two-year Xbox LIVE Gold commitment at an expected price of $10 per month (I'm going to have live either way, so the latter will probably be my choice if it means less money in the long run), it will run off Windows 8, and will have blue-ray functionality.

Like I said, all still rumors, but as we get closer to the reveal date, it's all looking more likely.

I think I am done with paying for Gold memberships. It will be PC Gaming, for me. I'll look into the PS4 if it has anything I like. But, yeah, screw MS and their membership subscriptions.

I'm pretty sure I'll be a sucker and keep paying, if they will still have it next gen.

Yeah, I agree. It was okay at the start of this generation when Xbox Live was significantly better than the PSN alternative, but now they're fairly even, not nearly enough to justify the $50 a year. And forcing people to pay for gold in order to use the Netflix app is just stupid. They need to change things in this area. It could actually cost them a lot of customers this coming generation. I know many people are saying the same thing.

It will certainly be interesting for all three major players to be taking completely different approaches to the home console market- and seeing how the market reacts.

Same. I only pay for Live about three months of the year now...but also pretty much everything I've bought in the past year has been for PC or handheld. I will likely just stick to those from here on out.

Hm. Does anyone else know about Nintendo TVii? Essentially, you buy a Wii U, and you get built in television at no additional cost, as I understand it. I don't watch much TV so I haven't gotten any use out of it yet, but from what I gather this could be pretty freakin' sweet. And I do plan to watch the new Teen Titans Go, so hey.

Xbox 720 detail leaks suggest “Xbox Infinity” as new name."

A new image discovered by users from both Twitter and Reddit suggest that the Xbox 720 may be released as the “Xbox Infinity”. The image shows off the Xbox Infinity logo and it’s followed by the tagline, “Infinite entertainment. Infinite possibilities.” which compliments Microsoft’s efforts to make the Xbox more than just a gaming console. However, of course the leaked image has been received with much criticism, especially from Forbes, whose Microsoft source sent them a differently-styled Xbox logo.

Imo "Infinity" would make perfect sense. I always called it the 720 for years but this new name fits nicely and sensibly in a lot a ways. This is the first time since I started calling it the 720 that I've actually liked a name better than. They should call go ahead and call it that and I think they will. No other sub name would fit better. Revolution? Maybe. Yeah, but Infinity sounds much more meaningful. Greater. I read somewhere that it might be just "xbox", and that'd be just ridiculous. There's already an "xbox". "Xbox 8" sounds even crazier. What about when Windows 9 comes out. And "Durango" only reminds me of the Mexican state or an ugly Dodge. Pfft.

I like Infinity a lot as well.

Iirc the Wii was originally called "Revolution", so that wouldn't fly.

Even the infinite logo being used falls well in line.

And "Revolution" would've been a far better name for the Wii. Maybe it sounded too hardcore. You know, what most of their fan base allegedly isn't.

Got this from Forbes.com.

"Is this the new Xbox logo that we’ll be seeing on May 21st? We know that the console exists with “Durango” as a code name, but we have been hearing over and over that the final device is going to be called the “Xbox Infinity”,

It's funny. I think I'm more interested in the entertainment possibilities considering I'm thinking of getting rid of cable and having a device that could play games and TV entertainment is interesting.

Always online confirmed. le sigh

That's not any sort of confirmation at all- it's the same rumour mill that was being discussed earlier in the thread. It's a week old article, after all.

Not that I think it is at all unlikely, but we should save the word 'confirmed' for when it actually is.

I'm betting on it not being "always on-line" for normal (single) games, also nothing will be "confirmed" until May 21st at the earliest.

For god's sake people really need to learn what "confirmed" means.

"This person says so without ever saying where they got the info" is not confirmation of any sort.
