Current Gen Console Discussions (PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch (Pro?) OFFICIAL THREAD

There is two teams at Playground. One is making Fable...the other making Forza Horizons.

And Forza Horizons is a good franchise. A lot of people like playing and they are probably ecstatic there is a new one (and surprised....) and could care less about Fable.

Redfall looks neat and I trust Arkane Studios...and we should be happy there is a new IP. It's also an open world game...so I'm intrigued on what it is.

Its like perpetually renting an apartment vs owning a home.

What a scam.

Haha..what a crock of shit....and a terrible metaphor.

I have saved more money with Game Pass then I have ever done with other sales and deals (aside from Epic's free game a week and maybe the first Steam sales back in the day).

Even if you spend 30 dollars on a game, it would cost you 100 bucks within a year of the ganepass scam.

I guess it's been long enough since the last subscription/streaming discussion that cdtm forgot he was wrong again.

The home/apartment analogy doesn't work, as you don't ****ing live in your video game. Games are individual, often one-time-use products that aren't tied to your state of being like a domicile is.

I think home ownership vs renting is another area with tons of misconceptions anyway, but that's a whole different topic.

CDTM, what are you talking about?

I only need to play 1.5 full price games that I would of bought to cover an entire year of Game Pass. I have played at least 20 games so far....

And....the amount of money I have saved from trying out a games I would of bought that I didnt like....

It also allows me to try games without the fear of wasting my money on games that I do not have interest in...

I used to pay a ton for sport games...I haven't bought a single sports game in 2 years. That's like 300ish dollars per years I would spend.

Or...games like Outriders...where I would never pay for..but have put in about 50 hours into now because its just a download.

It's not a scam...far from it. You are talking shit.

And 95% of these games...I will never play again...so I don't care if I don't own. It's literally just another version of renting games back in the day..you know...for 5 bucks.....

And let's say I find a game that I want to play in the future (for instance, Gears 5)....4-5 years from now...it will be like 10 bucks so who gives a shit.

Some subscriptions are weak.....unless you have never played anything. For instance, I think the EA Play is a bit lacking...but I have also played most of their titles in the past few years.

However...I honestly think Game Pass is done extremely and very consumer friendly. They tell you pretty far in advance what games are coming through a press release...and sometimes if the game is big...on the app itself.

And then they tell you far in advance when a game is leaving the service....but they also give you a discount if you want to buy it.

And the titles are quite good....

For instance, just on the PC Game Pass...The Ascent (looks neat) Lemnis Gate, Psyhoconauts 2, Age of Empires 4 and Forza Horizons 5 and Dark Alliance for the console.

That's not including most MS first party titles and now includes most Bethesda titles....

And the great thing...you can literally get 3 months free...or for like 1 buck and literally binge your way through all these titles (200+) for less than 10 bucks....and cancel anytime.

But noooooo its a scam.

Yeah. The only way subscriptions services aren't worth it is if you don't actually use them. Just check their library beforehand or during the free trial and see which one has games you want.

Game Pass is the most expensive, and it's still pretty easy to recoup that cost.

You can only play so many games at any one time. Its like a buffet, you get a bigger selection but end up paying more then you would if you just bought a handful of things off the menu.

The newest games may seem worth it, but even then, how many new games will you really be playing? What happens when you hit up that backlog of cheaper games, altering the calculations?

For me, a 7 dollar Hollow Knight has kept me entertained for about a year and a half now. If I decide to put it down, and pick it up again, I'll never need to pay more then that 7 dollars, ever.

That's the problem with subscription ala carte. Anything you want to consume, limited by how much you can consume, and only available until you decide to stop paying.

It's not even that expensive. I pay $17 a month for Ultimate.
That includes Gold, which I need because all my friends are 100s of KM away.

Actually, like you, I don't play most brand new games. I generally only pay full price for indie games, apart from rare exceptions like Resident Evil and Dark Souls. That's why I'm recommending subscription services. Even older games fetch higher prices than you think. Just running through the Infamous series on PSNow already puts you in the green. You said you wanted to play Darksiders, for example. It's all there on PSNow for you...plus the 700+ other games.

The Hollow Knight example really only applies if all you played was Hollow Knight. Like I've said before, if you only play two super discounted games a year, then yeah, avoid services like that. I just sincerely doubt most gamers fall into that bracket. Even then, you can get sales on the services too. I only payed ~45$ for my annual PSNow subscription.

Sidenote: You can easily make buffets worth it too, but you have to actually eat the right foods. Don't load up on the bullshit filler foods. They want you to get stuffed on rice and bread, so you don't actually eat the expensive meat.

👆 I agree. I just meant it's the most expensive, but still isn't hard to make worth.

I'm even considering doing GamePass myself, just because Microsoft is actually including phone support, and you don't need wifi for remote play. Sony has their head up their ass about that for some reason.

They really need to address all that, otherwise Microsoft, Stadia, Luna, Geforce Now will run them over in the upcoming streaming wars.

Just picked up a Series X. Primarily because of game pass and because it doesn't look hideous like the PS5.

Yeah. I like the look of the Series X. It's not earth shattering or anything...but its blank...and non descriptive. It just does its job.

And its bloody silent....I'm still surprised by it.

Yeah, it's nice and doesn't look obtrusive. Plus it actually fits in my entertainment center which is good...

PS5 looks perfectly fine to me. Certainly not "hideous" lol.

Does the new xbox controller even have the advanced and immersive haptic feedback that the PS5 one does? If so, I haven't heard anyone on xbox side bragging about it anywhere.

No, it doesn't.

Microsoft decided to go with backward compatibility with their controllers. They do have an added share button but they are generally the same as previous generation.

But you can use a Series X controller on an Xbox One...or an Xbox One controller on Series X.

Which is great considering I have 4 of them and two Elite 2 controllers (don't ask why I have a second one).

So 8 months later, which is the better console overall?
Is game pass cracked up as it’s made to be? How does ps now compare to it?

I haven't tried Gamepass yet, although they are giving your first month for only 1$. I might try the trial month just for comparison, as I do have my complaints with PS Now.
