Current Gen Console Discussions (PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch (Pro?) OFFICIAL THREAD

Just check the games they offer for Game Pass. I believe you should be able to do so from the console without signing up for it.

If they intrigued, they get it with the understanding they will be lost if you cancel.
A friend of mine gets the deal every so often that lasts about 3 months...and plays as much as he can.

Does the new xbox controller even have the advanced and immersive haptic feedback that the PS5 one does? If so, I haven't heard anyone on xbox side bragging about it anywhere.

Nope. And the PS5 controller is probably the most "next Gen" feeling thing about the console. Using it in a game like Returnal is really awesome.

Series X has its own features though that the PS5 doesn't. Like the quick resume feature. Probably the best feature the series X has.

As far as which console is better - Hardwarewise the Series X is more powerful. Full stop. We're starting to see the evidence of this in cross platform games now. RE8 performed better on the series X than the PS5. It's not by a huge amount, but it's there and may become more noticeable as time goes on. It also has a larger hard drive.

PS5 has the better exclusives right now. That may change in the next couple of years though, we'll have to wait and see.

PS5 has the cool controller features that the Series X is lacking.

Series X has quick resume which, once you get used to it, is really difficult to go back from.

Of course Series X has gamepass which is unparalleled value, and will only increase in value as time goes on and more exclusives get added. The fact that you can use it on the PC as well is great, as well as your phone.

Think it's hard to go wrong with either console. Both are solid and offers a good experience. The PS5 makes the better first impression and feels more next gen initially. Firing it up and playing astros playroom, Demons souls, Spiderman Miles Morales or Ratched and Clank, which looks better than any other console game available at the moment, feels like a next ben experience where as Series X doesn't really have that big "wow" inducing exclusive yet. But once you get into the series X and start playing around with gamepass, or play a cross platform game like RE8 that runs in raytracing mode at a nearly solid locked 60 fps, it's a good experience.

Uh, cool I guess. I MIGHT upgrade, but it's not gonna be a "for sure" until the Switch Pro comes out (if it ever does :/).

It's completely pointless.

Well, the controller imo is a pretty big plus for PS5 since that is what we use to play the games with. Does the xbox controller still run on batteries? LOL.

As I have stated before in other threads, I also much prefer playstation's trophy system over xbox's achievement system. I know most people would consider that trivial but to someone like me who makes a big deal out of going after trophies in my favorite games it is a big deal. XBOX achievement system is boring to me.

The only real thing that makes me consider getting a new xbox over the newest playstation is the fact that Microsoft now owns Bethesda games. I love Fallout and Elder Scrolls games so much. But from what I've been hearing it could be many years before the next Elder Scrolls title and even longer before a new Fallout. Who knows, we could be in the next gen by then.

Plus, there is always the chance that Bethesda can screw up with next Fallout game like they did with Fallout 76.

I heard there is an special xbox contoller you can get that rivals the PS5 one but it cost like $180 lol. Who the hell is gonna pay that much for just a controller other than rich people?

The xbox console may be more powerful but I doubt it is significant enough to make much difference.

Edit: oh yeah, I never got the PS4 so yeah, the entire PS5 (not just the controller) will feel very much "next gen" to me. 🙂

Yes the Xbox controllers still use AA batteries. It's a strange decision but what I did is buy the power A docking port, which comes with its own batterypacks. That way you don't need to worry about changing batteries, just put the controller on the dock when you're not using it and it stays charged.

Well yes, Elderscrolls 6 is several years away. But Xbox will be getting Starfield next year, which is the next game made by the studio that makes Elder Scrolls and Fallout. It's being called Skyrim in space, so that could be pretty great.

That special Xbox controller is the "elite" controller and yeah it's expensive. It's supposed to be really nice but even that as far as I know is lacking the haptic stuff the PS5 controller has. Though MS could release a revision that includes that stuff at any time.

Oh well, since you never had the PS4 then I think the PS5 is the best way to go since you'll be able to play all the PS4 exclusive games as well on it, many of which are enhanced with better framerate on the PS5.

You can always get the Series X down the road for cheap to play Elder Scrolls 6 or whatever too.

Yep, lots of games that are on PS4 that I've been wanting to play but couldn't because I only have a PS3 (and an xbox 360).

Yeah, in your case I think a PS5 is a no brainer.

Good luck getting one though. They're still tough to get from what I understand, and probably will continue to be scarce for another year or so.

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of that.

Last time I checked scalpers were selling them on ebay for like $1200 lol. I figure it'll probably be at least another year before I have a good chance of getting a PS5 at retail price.

Fortunately I still have plenty of PS3 games to keep me happy till then.

You could probably pick up a cheap PS4 and play some of those games for the next year.

Yeah it's insane. Retailers have them up on a more or less weekly basis now, but they always sell out in <10 minutes, so you have to be super on top of it to get one at a reasonable price.

Yeah, it's possible to find a cheap PS4 on someplace like ebay but it would probably be either used or "refurbished" crap. I learned my lesson a few montha back about buying refurbished stuff.

Purchased a refurbished AC window unit and it turned out to be a dud. Was only blowing out slightly cool air instead of actual cold air. Wasn't able to even cool a small room let alone several at once so had to return it.

It's unlikely I could find a new PS4 for a cheap price. Even if I was lucky enough to find one, I'd still rather just hold onto that money till I can get a PS5. Just seems like such a waste to spend money on a PS4 when there is already a better playstation out there that I can probably acquire sometime within next year.

Just need to be patient.

I haven't tried Gamepass yet, although they are giving your first month for only 1$. I might try the trial month just for comparison, as I do have my complaints with PS Now.

Some of my favorite games are ps exclusives, and overall I tend to play their games more compared to what the other consoles have to offer. I’ve heard ppl saying there’s a lack of variety. As someone who doesn’t game as often as I once used to, I don’t think I’d mind that too much tbh. What’s upset you about it?

If you really want one soon you can do it. Just follow a few of the Twitter accounts that send out alerts when they come into stock. That’s how I got mine. Took about a month of effort.

You have it shipped to you or did you go to a store to pick it up?

I got it from Amazon so obviously they shipped it to my home.

I also got my series X from Walmart and they shipped it to me.

I think Target and Bestbuy ship to your closest store and you have to go pick it up. Could be wrong though.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/09/03/sony-explicitly-said-a-ps5-horizon-forbidden-west-upgrade-would-be-free/?sh=7e40c4519306

While the $60 PS4 and $70 PS5 price points are Sony’s standard at this point, the confusing part was that there was absolutely no way to upgrade your $60 PS4 version to a PS5 version later. Instead, players are told to buy an $80 “Deluxe” version which allows “Dual Entitlement” for both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game

If Horizon was an Xbox game, that upgrade would've been free. Y'all know that right?

Well Sony acknowledged the backlash and lowered the price of Horizon's PS5 upgrade if you own the PS4 version to $10: https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1434290271286530050

Also too, a new version of the PS5 is coming but people are saying it's going to be a lot hotter: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/teardown-accuses-new-ps5-model-of-being-worse-due-to-cooling-changes/

I hear scalpers are buying even more of the OG PS5 due to this news.
