I know this was standard procedure the last two generations.....but with Microsoft giving free updates for their games and other big companies doing the same as well...reselling an upscaled remaster seems kind of weak.
And what's sucks...the Uncharted collection is only 4 and the expansion pack...its doesn't even include the first three games!
I've been fairly underwhelmed by the PS5 so far. The PS4 had to recapture momentum from the 360, so they took some risks and allowed some new unique IP's to be released. But now with the PS4 being such an enormous success I think they're starting to rest on the laurels a bit. They're being extremely safe and conservative wit the PS5 and Xbox is doing the opposite. I think if things continue this way, Xbox Series X will end up being the better console. It's doing some very cool and unique things, and has a lot of good exclusives coming out in the coming years.
I agree. When I heard Naughty Dog was making a remake of Last of Us.......I was a bit surprised Sony wouldn't start a new IP with Naughty Dog. I still don't understand why Sony is getting one of their premier developers to remake it.
It doesn't make sense to me. I am looking for a PS5 because why not...but I think Microsoft has done a great job washing away the shit Xbox One created for them. After almost a year of Series X....when I see a remastered collection being announced, I go "what the ****...that's still a thing?" because I am so used developers/publishers releasing Series X updates.
I think the next couple of years could be huge for Microsoft.
I know they said Halo is coming out on December...but I wouldn't be surprised if they push the campaign back again. MP is definitely coming out.
I wonder what Starfield will accomplish for MS.....it's nice to see Bethesda take on a completely different setting than fantasy and Fallout.
The only thing I can think that might go against MS...is that it seems all the new games coming out are existing franchise...franchises that have a lot of baggage in terms of expectations (Halo.......).I'm intrigued by the new Perfect Dark but I thought it would be better if that new team they created (in Santa Monica) could be better suited on a new IP. I think the amount of supposed talent they have.....would do wonders for sales when there isn't any specific expectations (lack of coop for example)......supposedly that new team has some big people in it... from wikipedia
"In addition to Gallagher, the studio recruited several game veterans, including Daniel Neuburger (director of Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider), Christian Cantamessa (writer of Red Dead Redemption) and Brian Westergaard (lead producer of 2018's God of War), as well as talents from BioWare, Naughty Dog, Respawn Entertainment, Santa Monica Studio, Blizzard Entertainment, Insomniac Games and Rockstar Games.[4][5][6][7]"
Gotta say though: the lack of traditional XP earning and instead only earning it via challenges instead of how good you play to be a tad worrisome giving a game you paid $60 the structure of a F2P that's already going to exist. Maybe if they could make the F2P version challenge based only while everyone who does buy Halo Infinite gets them as an option while retaining normal XP leveling like we've had it for many years? 😬

Not touching that update for the time being, but Sony's incompetence will never seize to amaze.

Ooh, a conspiracy theory suddenly seems more likely!
This isn't incompetence, it's vandalism. I bet they're intentionally bricking consoles to force new purchases!
I mean, wouldn't most users by out of warrantee by now?
That thought had occurred to me too actually, but wasn't sure if I wanted to say it right off at the risk of sounding overly cynical. Plus it's still near impossible to find a PS5 right now as is, so killing off most of their current playerbase by bricking PS4's with an update would be counter-productive, but current Sony is so stupid, the cynical part of me could see that. lol

While I don't think it is this time, I could see it happening in future that they start following the apple model.
Of course, Sony is becoming known for its bad decisions of late, so who knows.
I don't think it would be a good business decision anyways....Sony knows PS5 is impossible to get...I think they said they plan on making about 12 million consoles a year (which I think is not alot??)....so why would they intentional ruin a huge source of income.
There is 100 million PS4 consoles out there and people are still buying products on them....so its probably a bigger cash cow for the company than PS5 sales.
