You're telling me that as if I didn't watch the reveal. Yeah it does come with the console (no crap) but I find it weird that in order for the console to work, you need the Kinect. I'm not saying I dislike the Kinect (I have one and play it in fact) but does Microsoft need to make it important enough the console won't work without it?

I don't really care if watched the reveal or not. The point is that it's part of the system when you buy it. Don't see a reason to ***** about it? It's like bitching about the HDD.

Who knows what will happen with Kinect 2.0 but the great thing about it being part of the system is that everybody has it so developers are more willing to use it for games. Also, the XBOX One is a multimedia device and if it works correctly, I would love the ability to say, "XBOX find Top Gear" and viola, it's found.

Remember when the 360 was released? In that span, how we consume media has changed. The idea of streaming content was not available, HDTV's were not commonplace and you could only get apps in restaurants. Aside from a few nagging things (used games, always online and BC), I think the device has some good potential. It can still play games but it can do other things. Hell, depending on the price, some people might get two of them. One for gaming, and for multimedia functions in their family room.

Will Viola be the one finding it for you?

Oppps, hahahah. I guess she will. She could be my next wife.

Mine will be Siri.

It's a completely relevant point- it is how the new generation are coming to see the default. And as it becomes more established, more substantial products will be available this way at higher prices. Talk of the cost makes no difference to the principle. You just watch and see where the future goes; this is the way, and people won't mind because the principle, as established by the likes of smartphone purchases, will be the norm.

While I agree that the physical media is going away and I can also see the future being on an "per account" basis, I do think what it will do to the pricing is not clear yet. I could see it reducing game prices in the long run.

Do you think pricing as it is today will continue?

cue the hitler videos...

The one announcement that interests me is their claim that by the end of the year they hope to have 285,000 new servers in place for Xbox Live. The suggestion (I hope it's not a Fable promise) that there will be larger lobbies (with that much added power I expect nothing less than 50v50 Big Team Slayer matches in Halo 5) and even persistent worlds is an enticing one. For the last ten years I've wanted a console based MMORPG, and that might become a reality in the near future.

It's also really irritating you'll need the Kinect for everything and should it be damaged in any unfortunate events, the One would be a useless brick. Even if the game you played didn't support the Kinect, you still need to keep the thing hooked up for some stupid reason in order to play it.

It is to early to tell anything but I agree. The kinect should be purely optional. Some of us like myself don't mind using my controller to find stuff sometimes and like we have for years. What about late at night, don't wanna wake others your command hollerin'. And that would be fail if the "one" bricks just because the kinect did.

I'm pretty sure games will allow to use Kinect or not use Kinect.

Are people assuming Kinect will take over controllers? That's why people are annoyed?

I don't mind it, really. I just don't think it should be essential.

No, that the Kinect as a requirement will always have to be on, as the console won't function without it. I'm sure there'll be ways to stop it recording you, but still.

Wonder how the **** they will let gamers trade-in games online. I just know we're going to get ripped off even more than GS rips us off.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole "paying a fee in order to play a friend's game or a used game" for the Xbox One.

Not sure what route the PS4 is going to take though the lack of backwards capability doesn't make me that mad. Afterall only the older versions of the PS3 had that feature for PS2 games....IIRC.

Also I wonder what the Wii U is planning.

lol, gamestop is a ripoff. They offered my cousin $20 for his good xbox 360 elite a couple of years ago and it was the last time he did business with them. He said he felt so disrespected.

I couldn't believe it. Like I knew they were bad but that was crazy.

How would you know why it's essential?

We really don't know what MS has got yet. We know its part of the system and we know that it CAN be used to navigate the menus.

What happens if Kinect is a much easier way to navigate? And search for things?

I would love the ability to send messages by dictating my voice instead of using the controller. Also, supposedly it's a much better device and because all of the systems have one, it's not out of left field to suggest that developers will make an effort to create content for it.

Also, Kinect is a huge advantage for skyping. Plonk your family or friends in front of it and skype away. Much more convenient than a laptop or tablet.

Yep.

I couldn't work at gamestop. I just can't honestly tell someone I will pay 20 bucks for their xbox.

I worked at one of the big retailers here in Canada and took in games as trade. It was, for lack of a better word, ridiculous how big a gap there was in how much we'd take for a game, and how much we'd sell it for afterwards.

Staff used to get second-hand games for a freakin steal.

Yep. its ridiculous.

I still don't really get why MS/Sony/etc feel the need to get involved in an attempt to get rid of that business of them. Well I do get it, but IMO they should just leave it alone.

Well...it directly costs them money (more so than piracy)...so
