$520million WW folks. That's considerably more than Superman Returns, Batman Begins even accounting for inflation.
Heck it's even more than Thor and will probably end up surpassing the first Iron Man.
those are very impressive numbers for sure but after the third week and its already showing its dropping fast. It wont even come close to the last batman movie of just over 1 billion and the avengers hit almost 1.6 billion. I bet MOS hits 700- 800 million which is excellent for sure.

Revenge on Jor-El, and his abomination son, by using the world engine on Earth and making him watch.Or are we getting our wires crossed here?
He'd damn an entire world and harm his people for revenge against a dead man? I don't know what's worse, the gaping plot hole or undermining the only redeeming quality of Zod (That he genuinely wanted to help his people).
It would have been so simply to explain that they didn't have the fuel for a Phantom Zone jump (So they have to stay on Earth for a few years while they recharge) and the birthing chamber only works in Kryptonian atmosphere so re-purposing Earth was the only option they had. But that's more thought then Snyder put into it so whatever. EXPLOSIONS!

He doesn't care about humans and to him, Kal-El is a heretical abomination. I'm not even sure he genuinely considered Kal-El to be a "real" Kryptonian in the first place.
I'm sure that would have been a decent plot point, but I honestly thought what they had was fine.

Whedon couldn't produce action on this level. If they're really good, then how is it that they go on too long? If anything I felt they could have been longer. I'd love to see Supes using his speed a bit more for instance.
You were definitely implying that the action was bad in your post, but I see that you really just disliked the characters? Firstly I wildly disagree. All the characters in the fights were decent to great in my opinion, with the exception of that big guy who doesn't say anything. Faora was a badass and Supes was a sympathetic protagonist. How is he bland? You see his childhood, you see him discovering his heritage and powers, you see him interact with his mom and dad (I liked the bit on the porch with his mother. I really believed that they were family), his anger at Zod threatening his mom, him wrecking that douches truck etc. Supermans more lifelike and human than he has been in ages. Zod being hammy is one of the things people love about Zod. 😬 Everyone loves 'Kneel before Zod!' yet he's too hammy here? And he was not cartoonishly simplistic. He had a believale motivation that while not especially complex was treated with a weight. He was genetically engineered to work only for Kryptons benefit. Superman II's Zod was cartoonishly simple. He was just an ******* who wanted to take over the planet. In this move at least he has a bigger goal and motivation than Take over the World (of course!).
How was it contrived and forced? He saves her life and then she spends a while following him around learning what a hero he is. It makes sense for her to fall for him. Anyway, it wasn't even a romance. They were attracted to each other and wanted to bone. They didn't declare their love for each other or anything.
Maybe he was too busy saving the entire goddamn planet. He can't be blamed for Zods actions. Why should he feel guilty? Sure it wouldn't have happened if he wasn't there, but he can't be blamed for that.
Superman cared about people. Don't be stupid. He turned himself in knowing that Zod was probably going to kill him to save the Earth. He told people to run away in Smallville and saved that pilot from falling and even asked if he was ok afterwards. As I recall he got bitchslapped for doing that, so maybe that's why he stopped taking his attention off the things trying to kill everyone. Most of the damage to Metropolis happened before he even got there and after he did he was too busy beating Zod up and being beaten up to worry about collateral damage. You think he had time to worry about America's ****ing economy? Zod was threatening to kill every human on Earth. He had to prioritize taking him down. And if you recall, he did try to move the fight into space but Zod took it right back to Metropolis.
Also I highly doubt those buildings hadn't been evacuated at that point. Anyone still inside deserves to die for being so rock stupid to not try to gtfo of Metropolis at that point.
As I said he'd just killed the only other Kryptonian (unless Faora and teh others survived). If you read the interviews they've done they heavily imply that this act is the things that drives him to develop a no-kill code in the first place. Because its such a traumatic thing for him to have had to do.
He is a hero. He surrendered to Zod for Earth. He saved the entire planet. 😐
Actually iirc its shown on the news before he surrenders that people are saying that its his fault Zods here so he should give up.
And again, in no way should Superman be held responsible for anything Zod did. Thats like blaming a girls vagina because she got raped. Sure, without the vagina he wouldn't have been able to rape her, but at the end of the day they both got fvcked. Also the vagina snapped the guys neck and saved the entire planet so its actually pretty awesome.
C'mon seriously? Superman was amazingly
restrained towards the military. They tried to kill him earlier in the movie, multiple times and he doesn't even hold it against them the slightest bit. But he's not going to let them spy on him. I mean, for one thing I'm pretty sure that the military using spy drones against a citizen of the USA is illegal. You mean, other than all those times when he saved people? Like when he saved that bus full of kids, including the one bullying him? Or those guys on the oil thing despite it exposing him? Or Lois again despite it exposing him? Or the entire planet Earth despite him having to genocide his own species to do so? Yeah, what an *******.
You're clearly just a hater and also stupid.
Seriously, go die or something. That is unless Superman saves you you ungrateful spanner.
can we forward this to critics?

Originally posted by NephthysIf you're gonna make a movie that feels more real and gritty, with a darker tone and atmosphere, then making your villain act like a cartoon character kinda misses the point. Cartoon Zod fit in the cartoon Donner film, he doesn't in Snyder's. Though yeah, he deserves credit for actually being the closest to having a sympathetic situation. Almost.

As an aside, what was up with the truck scene? For someone trying to lay low and blend in, he sure likes to go over-the-top in destroying a man's livelihood in broad daylight. Again, kind of a weird thing to do for a good guy who avoids violence and "just wants to help". The guy's a prick to you, so you destroy his property and livelihood by crucifying his truck in the middle of the day. Weird and lucky that no one saw/heard that disproportionate over-the-top reaction. I thought this was a nice guy?

Originally posted by NephthysWhat? No, I'm not talking about some mid-fight rumination. Where'd you get that from? I'm talking about shaving some time off that infinite climax and showing us Superman lamenting the destruction of Metropolis, the warping of the planet core, and the deaths of thousands. Like, instead of just cutting to the end scene with the colonel, inject a scene that show him acknowledging what his presence has caused. I just expected, before the movie ended, to see Superman expressing regret and sadness at all the horrible shit that happened. Maybe some admission of responsibility that it's his presence on Earth that drew the danger. But they didn't show us that.

But yeah, that makes sense. It's still disproportionate though. We see his heartache for having to kill the last Kryptonian... but we see no heartache for the countless people that Kryptonian killed. *shrug* Would have been nice to see a scene that showed that, but I guess that would have detracted from the Matrix Revolutions homage.
Originally posted by NephthysWhat? That's not what happened. He saved the planet by fighting Zod. And that fight caused a terrible amount of damage. I was expecting the ultimate symbol of good and justice to acknowledge that, accept some burden of guilt and responsibility. Show that he cared, you know? Actually show that he cared, not have it implied from his comic book history. But they didn't, so...
He is a hero. He surrendered to Zod for Earth. He saved the entire planet. 😐
Originally posted by NephthysNo of course it's not his fault. Zod was ultimately responsible for starting the violence. Superman isn't responsible.

But I want him to feel responsible. I want him to show some compassion and guilt. Actually show it. This is why I said he's an *sshole and compared him to a closet villain. A city ruined, a planet lasered, thousands dead, the world in turmoil--and I had been expecting Superman to show some regret. I'm just repeating myself ad nauseum here, and I think you get what I'm saying. He may be an alien, but he lacks humanity. He's supposed to be a sympathetic force for good, full of compassion for humans and a desire to guide them toward peace and greatness etc. etc. But Man of Steel showed us a Superman who doesn't think twice about the destruction around him. I'm going to bold this part, because I get the feeling you're misreading me and assuming that I'm saying the Superman characters is responsible for everything bad and is actually the bad guy. But---Superman's not responsible, but he should FEEL responsible. A man of conscience, and morality should feel some inner turmoil, regardless if the blame ultimately lies with him or not. But the movie didn't show us that, so...
Ultimately that's my big problem with this film. Special effects are good, fight scenes are cool. But otherwise, bland secondary characters and an unlikeable protagonist. I just don't understand why people like this character (or any of the characters, really) in this film. He broods most of the time, screams a couple of times, and then talks flatly during the expository parts... not much to him. And if I don't like the characters, I have no reason to care about the story they're apart of, or feel tense and invested in the scenes where they're fighting for their lives. All the cool looking suits, CGI, and Super-Duper-Subtle Jesus stained glass window comparisons won't change that.

Batman Begins was never considered a blockbluster movie iirc. What did Thor make worldwide?
I know BB wasn't a mega hit, but it made more than most superhero movies do(adjusting for inflation).
But I was comparing to other reboots, and first movies of all the new Marvel big screen stars.
Thor grossed a total of $450mill WW. Although I'm betting Thor2 will do a lot better especially with the Avengers boost.
Still MOS probably won't reach the new Spiderman reboot total of $750mill WW.
The truck scene had me laughing. It made no sense in retrospect but I didn't care.
- Pa Kent gives speech about not using powers no matter what in public.
- Tosses a Truck into a tree in daylight because a bully hillbilly hurt his feelings.
Made me lol. Ultimately reflects my main problem with Superman's characterization being sacrificed for the sake of being cool/edgy. Just not my cup of tea I guess.
You really have to overlook stuff like this, shut off your mind and enjoy the explosions. While it tried to sell itself as some kind of epic (Which is the reason it gets criticized more so then Transformers for ex.), the script/acting etc. was all ultimately very mediocre, just enjoy the action.

My feelings exactly and seems to be what most people complain about with this movie. Hope they fix this for the second one or they won't be able to build some kind of franchise on this Universe.
I guess they could go full Micheal Bay and just constantly blow up shit for no reason.

I thought everyone did a good job with their acting.Even with stupid shit like Pa Kent's death.
Lol, Cavill might as well have been playing Hyperion. So brooding and bland. The part where he flies is the only time I connect with him. And ultimately, I can't help but compare him to Reeves.
Faora was the only real standout, but that's mostly because she's hot. Zod pretty much went around yelling at everyone like some cartoon character but I found his performance believable and enjoyable.
And I think that's pretty much it? I honestly can't remember anyone else from the movie. 😐
Not counting Lois, she was so forced and meh, she might as well not be in it.
Edit: Oh yeah, Pa Kent and Jor-El. Forgot about those two, man I really need some sleep. Jor-El was badass, Pa Kent was alright I guess.

Then why didn't Whedon do so in the Avengers?
