I don't think they tried to make him look young(er) in Indy 4, he was supposed to be an old man.

Well yeah the whole plot was a bit silly as well.

But were you really thinking, "oH yeah Indiana Jones is well cool," like you did in ALL THE OTHER Indy movies? No of course not.

And btw who said Indy4 failed? It was a huge financial success.

it was a financially successful dungheap.

and i though he was horrible in it, but that had nothing to do with wrinkled skin and gray hair. he acted like a tired mummy

I liked IJ4. I gave it an overall 7 and the story was very fascinating. There were some facepalm worthy moments but it was typical Indy stuff. I never agreed with or understood some of the hate.

Now back to Star Wars. 😐

I know and I doubt they will do that in SW either.

And you don't want the same to happen to Han Solo right??

*double post*

yeah terrific, but actually we are discussing harrison ford's relevance in the new SW based on his performance in indy 4. if you feel we are derailing the thread then feel free to report us to one of the moderators.

he was directed to act old and grouchy, and did a fine job. its the direction that sucked.

Yeah I've heard the Director they got for that is quite famous. And Ford get a lot of input in how Indiana Jones is played out.

So whose to say it's going to be any different if he plays old Han Solo. He certainly won't cool and have all the kids want to be like him, that's for sure.

well thats the key. we need the character that indy should have also been. i really think that with proper direction he could pull it off. we'll see...or maybe we wont.

If they follow the vision of the previous six films, then Luke, Han & Leia become background supporting players while letting a younger group of characters take centre stage.

👆 I dont understand the Indy hate either. Was it on par with the other Indy movies? No. But still better then 90% of the other junk out there today. Same with the Prequils.

Don't be so defensive. Calm down: we are all pals, here. 😄

I was calling attention to myself to get back on topic because I clearly was derailing. 🙁

I can agree to this, too. I think 4 was the weakest of the Indy films but it was still quite enjoyable. I think Ford did great in it, too. There really is nothing better than 80s ford, however. He was just awesome in (in order from oldest to newest):

Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Blade Runner
Return of the Jedi
Temple of Doom (my favorite Indy film)
Witness (seriously, this was a good movie)
Mosquito Coast (not one of his better selling films but he pulls of some excellent acting in this movie)
The Last Crusade

Those are the 80s films he was in that really enjoyed watching. I think he was at his best as an "old man actor" in Airforce One. He still kicked some ass while still having an air of "old man" dignity going on.

I'm not saying that is how he should play old Han but I think a mixture of the Airforce One character with the Han Solo character would be a decent fit for a wizened 30+ years later Han Solo.

Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine screenwriter is involved.

Not bad, both were solid movies.

"[...]has written a 40- to 50-page treatment for the film and is likely to be at least one of the writers when the Disney/Lucasfilm project begins shooting in 2014."

shooting/post production expected done in 1 year total then. i'm getting that old sinking feeling

Then that means that someone has already busted out a script? There's no way that could be passable for a film unless the writer is a genius when it comes to Star Wars trivia.

I was. Anyway, if they bring back the old crew (which I hope they do) I don't want them to be the main character. Have Luke take an Obi-Wan/Yoda role. Sure he may be old and fat but he still can kick major ass.

lets maybe just for a second put han and leia aside and address the issue we've been avoiding

mark hammil needs to lose some serious weight or he's going to look far more pathetic than even william shatner in star trek generations.

wow, Hamill is definitely not Jedi Material at this time

Give Hamill a beard as Old Man Luke. And yeah, time to diet, Mark.

Shatner looked fine in Generations.

But yeah, Hammill needs to be built more like Alec Guinness.

That raises questions.

Why would he tell them if they are not involved?

hmmmmm

this was all premeditated a long, long time. I sure of it. maybe even a decade or more ago. cause you gotta understand, pixar was owned by lucas, it was then sold to jobs and disney bought it from him. somewhere along those lines lucas thought long term with what he's presented now. i'm sure this buyout has been an option all along with all remnant ideas, for a couple of decades perhaps.
