Disney acquires Lucasfilm; Episode VII proposed for 2015

I can't remember if I'm one of them. I haven't seen that film in 10 years.

I've tried watching it when it comes on

if i want to go to sleep i will.

It's worthwhile.. Not SW, not ST, more like an existentialist dream of beauty and atmosphere and it happens to take place in space. In short: not a movie for Michael Bay fans, but a must see for movie lovers. Kubrick rules.

So, anyway, by an overwhelming degree, Star Wars was not made because it was meant to be a massive financial earner conforming to some demographic. It was made because GL wanted it to and was willing to back it. Hence the idea that Star Wars might be male-centric as that is where the profit was makes no sense in that regard.

I hope I did not give the impression that that is why I thought it was made. I was suggesting that the artistic pot was primed by creativity-past and something like Star Wars was bound to happen: a probabilistic inevitability.

I equate that to Episode VII, partially, as well. It was bound to be made, eventually.

Also, I did not want this thread to derail and talk about 2001. My bad.

Well that's fair enough. You're likely right that SW was not so particular that nothing like it would never have existed if it had not. My point really was just in lieu of the idea of movies being made to suit profit demographics. Which does happen, of course, but it's not some endless inevitability an Star Wars, in particular, is not really subject to it.

Which in turn goes back to the whole 'female protagonist' argument. The points there are that a. profit motive was neither reason nor excuse for Star Wars being male-centric in the past, b. Star Wars could legitimately put in some better female perspectives as an attempt at filling that artistic gap, c. it could of course also do it for cheap appeal and d. it might be completely irrelevant anyway as it was a vague rumour. I'll keep an open mind.

Nice.

Seems Harrison will be preprising his role as the Han in EP 7.

Story:

Latino Review, the site known for dropping major scoops about superhero movies, has moved on to Star Wars, and their latest finding is a biggie.

They’re reporting that Harrison Ford will return as Han Solo in Star Wars Episode VII. Now, we knew that he was interested in returning and we’ve heard that LucasFilm is interested in doing something with Solo, but this is the first time we’ve heard that Ford will, in fact, return. How will he fit in? Is this news legitimate? Discuss below.

Until Disney and LucasFilm release a press release, I understand how people will take this piece of news with a grain of salt. But Latino Review would not report it unless they heard, from a very reliable source (or sources), that Ford, director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Michael Ardnt and LucasFilm’s Kathleen Kennedy had discussed this and agreed on it. -end snip

i suspect that many ideas are casually being thrown about and some of those ideas get leaked. problem is that in these times, ideas such as that are taken with a grain of salt by the very people conceiving and receiving them.

so while i believe ford will return, these non-official announcements have become as common and frequent as flatulence on the internet.

Agreed.

It was posted on the notion that this: "But Latino Review would not report it unless they heard, from a very reliable source (or sources)" is true. But as noted, that could also be internet sharts.

well my core point is that even if the source is reliable, minds change quickly.

also, i never trust mexicans

In relation to the recent storm of rumours concerning Harrison Ford's return to the franchise - which, btw, is coming from only one source, I have to say this. People who want a recast are complete morons. The original cast needs to be there in some capacity or another. Recasting Han, Luke and Leia following Jedi is absurd, I'm not saying they should hog the screen time, but they are the only connecting factor to the OT and they need to be present, that is all.

if they connect to the OT....

i think this thread should just be renamed to "Episode VII News" or something so we dont get new threads for every bit of new ep7 info which seems to be teetering on the brink of an avalanche.

for instance:

In response to the rumor, respected journalist Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411, wrote the following:

I was told some time ago that Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill would be reprising their roles in Episode 7. Obviously this new movie won’t pick up where “Return of the Jedi” ended. It’s some time in the future. Han, Princess Leia (with a presumably better hairstyle), and Luke Skywalker will be a lot older. Their children will be the new main characters. RsD2 and C-3PO will be unchanged, I would guess. since they are not human. But suffice to say, the three main actors are definitely coming back.

emphasis for potential PT-busting news:

Han, Princess Leia (with a presumably better hairstyle), and Luke Skywalker will be a lot older. Their children will be the new main characters.

notice the general "their children", which in that wording includes luke.

[...]Their children will be the new main characters. RsD2 and C-3PO will be unchanged, I would guess. since they are not human. But suffice to say, the three main actors are definitely coming back. The bigger question is, which young actors will play their kids? Luckily Hayden Christensen is long since passed from this scenario. And you know, Carrie Fisher will be the funniest wisecracking princess in the Galaxy– holding a martini glass. Don’t forget, all three of the actors are still profit participants in “Star Wars.”

haha he did it twice. oh please be true.

This would be awesome. 🙂 What a day of win it has been.

he did it twice and its cleverly worded to avoid the direct point. perhaps he was given a verbal gag order about luke's kid(s)

i just hope all their kids are not jedi. at least have one grounded han solo-esque lead
