It isn't popularity alone, but it is part of it.He is popularly perceived to be one of the top heralds, after all.
I love Thor far more than Surfer but give the Surfer his due here.

Goober is the only really hardcore fan I can recall. That was pretty much it. The other guys have fans in spades making Surfer's lead imo far more impressive.
I see what your saying. He has a handful of guys that are fans of his on a small scale, but only one or two that actually go to bat with scans, make points and counter points and the whole nine yards.
Thor has 4 dudes that'll go to bat, Supes has 3-4 dudes that'll go to bat. But Surfer really doesn't have that.

Quan has a point. I've seen ppl completely diss the Surfer and dismiss his "feats" and no one here lifts an eyebrow. While I see one person put up a low showing of Thor/Superman/Hulk/Thanos just to bait and it's flamewar city. The fact that the gets the win here in votes so completely is pretty impressive, you gotta admit.
That or Surfer has a lot (or a few with several accounts each) of stealthsock fanboys lurking in the shadows.

Its turnaround for all those times when Surfer got a pass and was treated like a forum avatar. Flash used to be the same. It comes and goes in stages.
As far as votes go, a lot will vote for Surfer simply because he's Surfer, tbh.
Originally posted by Mshinuyeah he gets dumped on all the time. I noticed the same thing with Ironman, people will give tony wins over Ronan, Kl'rt, Wonder Woman and other low-mid heralds, but then IM is considered a high meta by most. It doesn't make sense to me
Poor Kallark, he used to be well respected on this forum. Now people seem to think of him as barely above mid-herald. Is Carver to blame?

He's always been considered around mid herald... 😐

Huh? Most people would give Wonder Woman the win over Iron Man. Or do you mean post reboot?

I rarely if ever bring up Gladiator anymore or even go in a thread involving him to put up a vote or debate. The guy gets treated like crap here.

What do you mean? Don't follow.
I dunno. With a lack of visible "fanboys" who would vote for the character "no matter what", wouldn't it stand to reason that the people who, indeed, voted for him didn't do it out of some sort of bias for the character but more out of respect for what he can do?

Not nearly as much as you think he does.

When was this?
Although goober wasn't the main portrayer of this, around the time he was on the boards.

Yes, or that he's popularly believed to be that powerful.
Originally posted by quanchi112Wow. I remember that major Thor/Surfer debate you and Goob had a few years back, and you made a pretty damn good case for Thor winning (which is why I quietly bowed out and let the Surfermaster -- Goob -- handle Surfer's side).

But people "believing" him to be "that powerful" would mean that thru evidence that they've been provided, they made the conscious interpretation that he is, indeed, that powerful rather than some form of preferential bias towards the character.
Edit. Most of them anyway.
