He has massive balls.

My idea for "Gun Control"? I'd begin by nixing "Gun Control" and say instead, "Ban Civilian Possession of Battlefield Capability."

Civilians don't really have access to weapons of Battlefield Capability.

If you walked onto a battlefield armed with the "assault rifle" that civilians use, such as the AR-15. you would be slaughtered in moments by real assault weapons- ya know, the ones that can actually fire on fully-automatic.

Full auto doesn't make a gun more deadly, it just adds one point of niche functionality. The US Army has gotten along fine with burst limited carbines for decades.

A carbine isn't an assault weapon- it serves its role perfectly fine, but carbines are precision weapons. They don't serve the same function as an assault rifle.

From a distance, accurate, single-shots are fine. If you were going to, say, sweep through a school, a weapon with a high-rate of fire is the better option.

If an M4 carbine doesn't count as a an assault weapon I find it hard to think what does.

I'm fairly certain you have no idea what a carbine is.

Yes, that perfectly explains why they almost completely replaced assault rifles in the US Military.

The only thing a full auto setting is good for is shooting lots of bullets very fast. Getting lots of bullets into lots of people very fast is just as well done (probably better done in terms of efficiency) by shooting semiautomatic.

Editing wikipedia to try to win huh? That's a new low SC.

Here I've always thought that the definition of an assault weapon was more about the cartridges than rate of fire, because automatic rifles and submachineguns also fire at similar rates; that the distinction between an assault rifle and an automatic rifle or a sub-machinegun was that an assault rifle fires shortened rifle ammunition at above single-shot rate (this distinguishes it from a semi-automatic rifle), while an automatic rifle like the BAR fires full sized rifle ammo and a SMG fires pistol ammo.

But the whole "assault weapons" distinction should be tossed out in favor of something like a "military weapon" distinction. AR-15s have higher magazine capacities and use different ammunition than hunting rifles, ammunition less suited to bringing down big game at long distances. When me and my dad go deer hunting we take 10 bullets tops for each of us, and load them one or two at a time, because that's all you need unless you plan on gunning down a herd.

I think it is more of a functional definition? Submachine guns are smaller and more manuverable than assault rifles, but sacrifice range and accuracy with a smaller barrel. I'm pretty sure you can get an MP5 or M4 fitted with any standard NATO round and it wouldn't change their classification.

There is a gun (the HK53) that is basically an MP5 that fires a rifle round. I've usually seen it referred to as a rifle (since its actually a subcompact version of a full sized rifle), although HK apparently calls it a submachine gun. The M4 already does fire a rifle round and unequivocally a carbine not a sub-machinegun.

It is neither. Assault weapon is a legally defined term in the US:

For rifles it is as follow:
Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Muzzle mounted grenade launcher

Notably this doesn't AR15s and AK47s, they were part of a special list of scary guns in the same law. Amusingly this means a Type 56 (an AK47 with less than a centimeter of metal added to the sight) is not an assault weapon at all!

I'm not.

Gun control is any law, policy, practice, or proposal designed to restrict or limit the possession, production, importation, shipment, sale, and/or use of guns or other firearms by private citizens.
Gun control laws and policy vary greatly around the world. Some countries, such as the United Kingdom, have very strict limits on gun possession while others, such as the United States, have relatively modest limits. In some countries, the topic remains a source of intense debate with proponents generally arguing the dangers of widespread gun ownership, and opponents generally arguing individual rights of self-protection as well as individual liberties in general.

Hello, Spammer.

Goodbye, Spammer.

Anyone hear about Sheriff Time Mueller?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/16/tim-mueller_n_2486001.html

Suddenly, Oregan seems like an okay place to live. Now if only we can get him to be the same way about most currently illegal drugs...

From what I understand of rural Oregon, almost everyone already has a gun, so laws constricting the sale of certain firearms won't do much either way. No one will even breathe the word "confiscation", which is the only way that a new gun law might infringe upon the 2nd Amendment in any real sense. This is a sheriff making a political statement on principle and nothing more.

Gun control is an almost laughable idea. People are the ones who are in need of more control. Not government control or police control, but self control. It's 2013 and a gun, no matter what kind it is is about as non-consequential as arrows when compared to the new and improved ways of killing people. A human that wants to kill has lots of options of how with or without guns. A man skilled with a sword can wreak havoc in a doctors office or day-care center. After he does should we ban sharp objects? Ridiculous, right? People in the younger generations have been denied religious instruction from their main adult interaction, their teachers, and whether you agree or disagree with religious instruction per individual, muzzling adults from even discussing their beliefs is choosing ignorance over awareness. American society is more exposed to fake violence than ever before, and more shielded from religious moral codes than ever before. Things likely won't improve as America becomes even more Godless.
