The better Dark Knight villain: Bane or Joker?

And to honestly think Luthor is some big bad challenge for Superman is beyond me.

Neme's point is Darkseid is a bigger challenge for Superman because he is. He might not be Superman's primary antagonist which to you means ultimate challenge. Both Darkseid and Doomsday are both bigger challenges for Superman.

You don't read Superman comics, so how could you possibly know?

I've read enough. Primary antagonist is not his biggest challenge.

Let's see if you will answer the question. Who is the bigger challenge to Superman; Darkseid or Luthor ?

When all is said and done, Luthor.

And you still haven't read my post properly.

If you think Luthor is a bigger challenge than Darkseid I have nothing else to say to you. Let's just say we disagree.

It's not my fault you don't understand the characters.

I don't think you understand what bigger challenge means. In your world Doom is a bigger challenge than Celestials. I enjoy your opinion.

If you'd read my post and responded to my actual point, maybe we wouldn't have gotten to this point.

And no, I don't think that. You just need to stop thinking about it solely in terms of power.

Doom is.

I am not thinking in terms of power alone. Darkseid is smarter than Luthor as well. Darkseid is a bigger challenge altogether than Luthor is to Superman. Primary antagonist has absolutely no bearing on who is a bigger challenge to a hero.

I think Luthor is a bigger challenge than Mongul is to Superman despite Mongul being far more powerful.

Maybe now you'll understand.

I disagree, tbh, at least where Darkseid is concerned. He's up there, but I wouldn't consider him to be Superman's nemesis. I actually used to think he was too, but I've had to revisit that.

And when I mentioned Skeletor, I was speaking from watching the animated show. I've never read the comics much.

Oh, Luthor is Superman's primary nemesis, sure, but IMO Darkseid, even more than Luthor, represents everything Superman is not.

King Hiss was in the show, and was explicitly far more dangerous than Skeletor.

Darkseid is more of a chess player than that. He likes to mess with Superman psychologically. The one time he did try to wipe everything out was Final Crisis, and thankfully they stopped him.

Okay. Not sure what this is in reference to, lol.

There were times when he went too far, yeah.

SHUT THE **** UP

If you'd explained your interpretation properly, we souldn't have an issue.

I can agree that Darkseid is Superman's polar opposite. I've written as such before. I just think that nobody screws with Superman's very being, his very soul as much as Luthor does. You can beat up Darkseid, toss him in a boom tube and go home for tea, but Luthor is insidious. He sticks around. He gets in to your head in a way that DS really can't, imo.

I honestly don't remember King Hiss, tbh.

I was referencing your comments about Darkseid and how he sought to annihilate etc.

The way Darkseid was originally written, Superman shouldn't even be a challenge for him. I don't have the comics on hand, but pre-crisis, he was throwing around Kryptonian's around like rag dolls. He's the Bane of the Superman mythos, and unlike Bane, old Uxas doesn't have an exploitable weakness. He's more of a general threat to the DCU than a Supes villain in particular.

Lex Luthor works as Superman's arch nemesis for several reasons, many of which are mentioned above. What's greatest about the guy to is that, arguably, HE is closer to the idea of a superman(in the Friedrich Nietzsche vein) than Kal-El is. It's the perfect irony. That's why I love Red Son so much, because at his his full potential, Lex can do so much more for humanity than Clark ever could.

.

Joker joker

Perhaps you guys should decide what defines someone as in arch nemesis before arguing over it 😛

Let's just decide for them.

Stop giving people choices, Newjak!

I will not have a dictatorship formed under my watch uhuh

I mean first off do people here believe a character can have only one arch-nemesis or can they have multiples? 😛

Generally, an arch nemesis is singular. It also doesn't factor on "can beat up the hero" as the sole reason, as some here think.
