Skeletor is explicitly not the biggest baddy in the He-Man series though, lol.And in the case of Superman, I'd argue Darkseid is his antithesis and ultimate challenge in a way beyond Lex.
I disagree, tbh, at least where Darkseid is concerned. He's up there, but I wouldn't consider him to be Superman's nemesis. I actually used to think he was too, but I've had to revisit that.
And when I mentioned Skeletor, I was speaking from watching the animated show. I've never read the comics much.

Superman isn't willing to lethally handle Darkseid because Darkseid is super powerful. He is willing to do it because Darkseid is one of the most horribly evil and dangerous threats to existence, a godlike being whom won't stop until all individuality is destroyed, and the Multiverse is an extension of himself.
Darkseid is more of a chess player than that. He likes to mess with Superman psychologically. The one time he did try to wipe everything out was Final Crisis, and thankfully they stopped him.

Hasn't Luthor at several points done something on that scale?
There were times when he went too far, yeah.
