1. it was the new 52 jla, not pre-reboot, which this thread is about iirc.
2. It was cast by a magical trident, and this was after all three members were weakened from combat.Especially considering how since the reboot, people like Superman have tanked worse than lightning.
How was he or any of the other JLA weakened? Getting punched once by Aquaman and being stunned isn't being weakened... Furthermore, if one punch from Aquaman will stun him.. what would a punch from Thanos do? KO him?

So if Superman was completely fresh, you think a couple of stray lightning bolts would put him down?
That's lowballing.
Well... he was pretty much fresh.. and he was put down by them... So yes, unless you want to consider this PIS. Problem is, he has many low showings that can't all be thrown at as PIS. Point is, even if I concede he wouldn't be put down by some random lighting most of the time.. Thanos blasts are exponentially more powerful than some random lighting. So if random lighting can at least hurt him.. and Aquaman can stun him... Thanos will be able to put him down even easier no?

Except that it wasn't random lightning. It was magical lightning. And he doesn't have "many" low showings at all. Not since he's reached his current age and power level.
And again, while sure, Thanos would be able to put Superman down, there are two problems: One, you're debating the wrong Superman, and two, Superman is pretty strong himself.

Yeah, it has.

Question...Has it been confirmed on panel yet that the staff generates magical abilities. From what I've seen, it was controlling the weather...havent seen anything on panel confirming its source of power (magic). Is there a link or something?
It fires energy blasts also. You'd know that if you'd read the issue. And Atlantean artifacts are by nature magical. The dead king's sceptre, Aquaman's trident; all of them are magical in nature.
It's Atlantis, ffs.

Ok, I was just asking. His helmet also played a role in what he was doing as well. We just need to see more from the character to determine what he is capable of imo. It's too vague.

Orm is a sorcerer, him conjuring lightning out of the sky would be considered a magical lightning. Not that it matters

The helmet controls the seas, not the skies. Seriously, did you even read the comic, or just look at some scans?

Lol...I read the comic. I didn't give a description of what his helmet controlled, I was just throwing that out there that his helmet can manipulate things as well.

Yes, the seas. Like it said in the comics. Trident controls storms, crown controls seas.
Now I'm repeating myself.

Why though? I could see if it came out of his doohickey, but it came directly from the sky. Reasonable explanation please.
Don't care about thread
Thor's weather effects are tied to his magic, that's why he can summin stuff in space, on other planets ( even on ego who commands his atmosphere), and on earth where that phenomena doesn't often occure, like in a desert.
Storm can only use what's available through psionic means
There is a difference but the same effect can happen with seperate sources
