It takes either sun itself like after final night or a constant, steady supply of sunlight for a long time like after Infinite Crisis. He wasn't full powered at that time when they attacked despero. Forum Surfer(AKA us with Surfer's powers) is another story though. We know what Thanos is capable of and what he can tank so we wouldn't be moronic and attempt to duke it out with the guy. So given Surfer's vast versatility it is quite possible for us to find ways to get rid of Thanos.
