Gethzerion -vs- Galen Marek

Before heading off to deal with the Emporer - Marek learns of a Force Sensative Witch on the planet Dathomir - hearing that her destructive abilities apparently rival Palpatine's.

Deciding she would be a good way to practice for his final confrontation - he heads there.

He walks into the main village of the Nightsisters and calls for Gethzerion to fight him.

She appears, looking intrigued - and then pissed off. (It's the time 'o the month for her)

Both will fight to the death - to see who is superior.

Location: Dathomir - Nightsister Village

Starting Distance Apart: 15 Feet Apart.

I'm going to shock everyone and say that Gethzerion stands a good chance. She's able to create storms with the Force and lightning that reaches into the sky:

'Outside, through the open portals, Han could see fierce storm clouds in the distance, flashing lightning. The stars here burned fiercely above the tree-covered mountains. Around him, the witches laughed and taught their daughters spells in the shadows. The young girls wore shirts and pants of simple hides, not the elaborate costumes of the fully trained witches. Yet the witches seemed more casual, more cozy around their children. They removed their headdresses and let their hair down. Without their full attire, they weren't so intimidating, and reminded Han only of rugged peasants. The witches' husbands worked silently, dressed in tunics of woven plant fibers, serving meals to the women so quietly that Han almost felt as if they must be communicating telepathically.
Augwynne sat nearby so that she could speak softly to Han and Leia. She noticed how Han frequently eyed the distant storm. "Do not worry yourself," she said. "That is only Gethzerion, thrashing in impotent fury. But she is too far away. There will be no Force storm tonight."
"Gethzerion is making that lightning?" Threepio asked, his eyes suddenly bright. "Why, I wonder how much power output she can produce."
Augwynne looked at the distant clouds, unconcerned, and a brilliant branch of orange lightning with many tongues arced up into the sky, as if expressly for her to see. "Oh, she's very powerful, and very angry. But for tonight, she will not come."'

Said lightning is powerful enough to turn rock to magma:

'Thunder rumbled over the clouds, echoed from the mountain wall. Purple lightning spat at the cliff face above, exploding like a blaster bolt, sending splinters of magma flaming down in an arc.'

And telekinetically she can kill 100 stormtroopers with a wave of her hand:

'Melver got up, tried to recover his dignity, and took the detonator. "Thank you," he grunted.
"Ah, and allow me to do you one more favor!" Gethzerion whispered, stepping forward. "By giving you this—” Her eyes opened wide, blazing, and she made a raking motion with her index finger. Beside Han the general gasped, reached up to hold his temple, then staggered forward a pace. "A simple death!" Gethzerion cackled. All around Han, a hundred stormtroopers crumpled simultaneously, some of them staggering a step or two, some firing blaster rifles in the air so that Han instinctively ducked. Within three seconds the stormtroopers lay on the ground like drugged birds, unmoving. Han looked up at the carrier, waiting for the ship to open fire. Nothing happened. The ship remained deathly still.'

And owns Luke and Han with the Force:

'She pointed a finger at Luke, and before Luke even recognized her evil intent, a ripple of Force slammed into him. White lights exploded behind his eyes, and the right side of his face felt as if it had been smashed by a hammer. His left arm and right leg crumpled under their unbearable weight, and he dropped to the ground on one knee, stunned. All the noise and blaster fire and screams of pain died away, became a distant roaring. Gethzerion pointed at him again, twitched her finger, and his eyes lost focus. He felt the hammer blow to his left temple, dropped to his sides and rolled over to his back, grasping. Luke stared up at the sky, watching streams of rocks hurtling above him—some propelled by the Force, others hurled by rancors. Time seemed to slow. His head throbbed, pounding to the same rhythm as the beating of his heart. His face had gone cold, numb, and Luke realized distantly that Gethzerion's spell had ripped open blood vessels in his brain, and he was about to die, one among hundreds of fatalities on this battlefield.'

'Gethzerion twitched her finger, and Han jerked upright, found himself with his feet dangling in the air, held by an invisible cord around his throat. Gethzerion watched him intently, began to sing, swaying from side to side. He felt the noose around his neck tightening. Han chocked, kicked, fought to break free.
"I wonder what your thermal detonator would have done to me," Gethzerion reflected, still swaying. "I suspect it would have blasted my flesh into scraps, and broken my bones, and fried me all at once. So I think I shall do all of these things to you—but not so hastily. Not all at once. I think we shall work from the inside out. First I'll snap your bones, one by one. Do you know how many bones there are in the human body, General Solo? If you do, just triple the number, and you'll know how many bones you'll have when I finish with you. We'll begin with your leg," Gethzerion said. "Listen carefully!" She twitched her finger, and the tibia in his right leg made crackling sounds. A painful spasm made its way up to his hip.
"Aaaghh," he cried—and saw something over the desert. There about two kilometers off he saw the running lights of the Millennium Falcon speeding toward them, only meters above the ground.
Gethzerion smiled in satisfaction. "There now, you have three bones where you had but one."
Han tried to stall her, tried to think of anything that would slow her for a moment. "Listen," he strained to speak. "You aren't going to do this to, to, to my teeth, are you?" he said, unable to think of anything else. "I mean, uh, anything but the teeth!" He glanced around the compound. Several Nightsisters were coming out the bottom of the towers.
"Oh, yes, the teeth," Gethzerion said, and she twitched her forefinger. Han's right upper rear molar exploded with a popping sound, and the stabbing pain shot through his ear and upper face, until it felt as if Gethzerion had grabbed his eye at the socket and were intent on pulling it through the roof of his mouth. Han silently cursed himself for giving her nifty ideas. The Falcon wasn't getting here fast enough, and Han shook his head.
"Wait!" he cried. "Let's talk about this!" and Gethzerion wiggled her forefinger again. The upper left rear molar snapped, and suddenly there was a whooshing sound as the Falcon fired its missiles.'

This is only 2 years before Dark Empire btw, Luke is already a Jedi Master at this point.

As for speed, she's able to dodge turret fire:

A volley of blaster fire shot from the dorsal turrets with pinpoint accuracy. Gethzerion crouched as the bolt ripped through the air where her head had been.

Even Palpatine feared her power. And for good reason imo.

Wow. She pwned practically-DE Luke with the Force.

No wonder Palpy shit his pants over her, and had the planet sealed-off.

Good points, also.

Logically, anyone who rivals Palpatine in power can beat Marek.

What I don't understand, is that people postulate that Marek can beat anyone close in power, or approaching it, like Dooku - and the game implies the same with Marek's defeat of a very-peak Vader.

So what is it that magically grants Sidious the ability to shrug off Marek's attacks, with only singed-robes?

If Marek can potentially pwn people approaching the power of Sidious, his attacks should do at least a little more than ruining Sidious' clothing.

In the very least, it should be a given that Gethzerion (on par with RotJ Sidious) can shrug off Marek's attacks as well.

As well as she's apparently capable of the same level of TK as Marek, casually.

2 years prior to DE is not practically DE Luke. That's like saying AOTC Kenobi/Anakin is practically ROTS Kenobi/Anakin.

Thats a good point; in the early stages of Luke's career his power developed at a much faster rate, so two years provides a fairly significant power differential.

Luke is already a powerful Jedi by the time of RotJ, not too far off of Vader if the RotJ novel is to be taken at face value. Gethzerion owning him is an extremely impressive feat going just off of that. At the time Luke is skilled enough to fly the Falcon by himself using the Force. I doubt Luke's abilities grew that much to be honest considering what happened between Gethzerion and Dark Empire is that Luke searches for a painting and for Jedi and spends a shit-ton of time dealing with Thrawn. Anakin spent those 2 years constantly fighting and training. Luke spent them running around the galaxy looking for paintings (lol) and banging Mara Jade.

He was training Leia and was still in the relatively early years of his own training. As the Last Jedi his training was always important to him.

Dark Empire is the first time he's shown to be Uber Powerful.

And according to Lucas in the ROTJ Audio Commentary Luke was only half trained at this point and not fully equipped to defeat the likes of Vader.

A lot has changed since that ROTJ Novel was written. Ben & Owen being brothers for instance.

He was also offering others the chance to train under him, he was not relatively early in his training at all. By that time he'd already encountered Lumiya and Kar Vastor.

That's slightly lessened by the fact that Luke did beat Vader. :I

Relatively to PT guys. Luke had been training for 10 years by DE. That's the amount of time Padawan Anakin had been in training by AOTC.

Well in a pure Saber duel and in a rage enhanced state. Similar to how Padawan Obi-Wan was temporarily stalemating(even besting) Darth Maul.

Well, I say Gethzerion wins here - after a difficult fight.

She's shown to be as powerful as Marek - if not more powerful.

And best of all: Palpatine was not afraid of Marek - but he was afraid of Gethzerion.

That speaks volumes in the true difference of their power.

As being very adept with a lightsaber, she could at least hold him off there, long enough to take him out with her Force abilities - if she didn't do that already.

Indeed, Luke was already close to DE level at that time. In the same book he demonstrated one of his trully unparralled feats: simultaneously levitated himself, his x-wing and Isolder from sky fall safely to the ground(Palpatine couldn't do that even to himself alone). Yet, he is still not skillful enough to utilize his power effectively in actual combat, especially when it comes to witches using Force differently.
As example in the same book he gets Force handled by Teneniel Djo simply because he never dealed with the kind Force attack she used against him. Later Djo gets electrocuted by another more powerful witch. But when that witch tried to do the same to Luke, he blocked her lightning(power he dealed with before) and chopped her head off.

The lightning. Was it from her hands or from sky?

She might be close to level of Palpatine but Marek still gets unfair advantage of having lightsaber. In game Marek could block even Palpatine's lightning.

If she wins, imho it would be not by overpowering him but by utilizing some Force attack, which Marek never dealed with.

Kar Vastor

I've long been an advocate of Gethzerion's underrated status, but storms aside, Marek's abilities and feats outstrip hers. He probably won't be stomping her, but I'd give him the victory.

Think I might have to give that novel a read. I think considering Galen's training and overall ability he's capable of winning this one unless she throws something at him sorcery-wise that he's utterly unprepared for. Lightning and TK won't be enough on their own, but again if Palpatine feared her to that extent clearly sabers, speed, and Force prowess on your side still don't make her easy meat.

Can anyone throw out more info on specifically what Palps said in regards to her?

I meant in their final lightsaber fight after Qui-Gon died. Obi-Wan was clearly holding his own and you could even say was edging out Maul since he cut his Saber. Of course Maul still the all out combat by force pushing him.

Your right Obi-Wan at that stage was never going to match Maul in an all out enraged or not.

I was just pointing out the boost he got in his performance by being enhanced by his rage. And comparing that to Luke battering Vader in Sabers in a similar state. Vader never used his Force TK on Luke or he surely could have just Force Choked him with ease.

She does have a lightsaber. She was in fact one of the few Nightsisters who used one.

I'm not so sure, she did kill 100 people with a wave of her hand. That's pretty fvcking impressive imo. Owning Luke is another thing that's indicative of great skill and power.

I'm not sure that he actually said anything about her, only that he had a fleet blockade Dathomir to keep her contained.

Didn't Starkiller also control lightning from the sky on Kamino to bring it to his hand and shock Vader in TFUII?
