That...is a bummer. The trailers show great fight scenes, and Spidey practically flying as he webslings. Was it the story that didn't hold together?

Trailers do make this look like it'll be a blast.

Plot was uninteresting, felt my mind wandering many a time. Villains were overall boring/they did not engage you. As someone pointed out, The Rhino was practically none existent; when he was, you laugh at how bad it was. Electro's story and motives were awful. Goblin was the best of the three (still not great), but he had a tiny part [as Goblin]. Visually, he blew away how Goblin looked in SM, but that kid is no William Dafoe.

Add up all the action scenes in ASM2 and they don't compare in grabbing your attention to the train-fight in SM2.

I don't even know why Rhino was even included in this film. I mean, he was nothing except a throwaway dork.

This was Spider-Man 3 all over again with too many villains and not enough character development.

I'm really not gonna harp too much about

Spoiler:
Harry killing Gwen as opposed to Norman
but at least this paves the way for another certain character.

Decent film, but I liked the first ASM film better. I'll give it an 8 for action, CGI, and for paving the way for new characters and the eventual spin off films.

Also, does anyone have theories on who the man in the shadows from the end of both films?

Yeah it was. Electro felt like a Schumacher villain and that scene at the end with the kid... My eyes are still rolling from that.

I thought the scene with the kid wad quite emotional personally.

This was no Batman Forever or Spiderman 3. It was a decent sequel, just not amazing so probably disappointing in that sense. But it was at least a nice set up for future installments.

Really. Plus, the whole scene with Pete stopping the train was great (h'm, I probably should've included that in that other thread: Best Comic Book Action Scenes).

one working theory i have is that that is richard parker who is still alive and he has gone over to the darkside..

another one is actually that is Norman Osborn who faked his death in Amazing Spiderman 2

I thought ASM2 was good, not great, definitely not boner inducing like Cap2. I have to admit i was wrong about Electro, his look was well done. However, i was 100% right about Jamie Foxx, he didn't fit the part, imo. It also didn't help that his evolution into a villain was very poorly executed ("I'ma kill wreck shit and kill people 'cause you forgot my name", that was turrible. )... some of his dialogue was poorly written as well.

I heard someone mention that the effects looked video game-ish, i thought they were great.

There were good laughs, but standout of this was definitely the web-slinging, Spidey's aerial acrobatics/maneuvering was spectacular. I also think they did a very good job with his physical stats, as well as his spidey-sense and tactical genius.

The you-know-what of you-know-who was handled well, it got a giant "oooh" from the audience... not sure if it was from people not knowing it was gonna happen, or because of the sound that accompanied it.

Rhino was complete and utter shit, they could have left that nonsense out of the movie. What a terrible character design. I certainly hope they restart the genetic hybrid experiments and improve Rhino's look if he's brought back for the next movie. Almost equally turrible was that kid at the end. The entire last scene of the movie was awful.

They mention his name in the movie. It's Mr Fiers. Apparently he created the Sinister Sin in some spidey novels.

Alternate Rhino designs

that Rhino Concept Liquid Metal 01 or 10 is somewhat like his Ultimate design.

The guy in the shadows is The Gentleman. Not the Korean guy, the one from Spidey comics. I'm surprised so many people didn't like it. It sh1ts all over Raimi's SM3 movie in terms of... everything, can't even compare the too. Rhino being in the movie for few minutes was announced months ago, he will play a bigger role in the next one, so I wasn't really surprised. The scene with the kid really was emotional, and very Spidey-like. At least to me the plot didn't feel boring or out of place. Sure Electro's motives were meh but he pretty much went insane so he gets a pass. Harry was well done too. I was afraid he'll just appear and become a villain out of the blue but that was not the case.

People comparing this to Spider-Man 3 is well over the top.

The plot is so much better, with Oscorp doing all these superviallin experiments instead of Venom randomly falling out of the Sky and landing right next to Spider-Man. And Uncle Ben's killer randomly falling into an experiment becoming the sandman.

It also didn't cramp in too many supervillains. There was 2 villains throughout. Rhino's end cameo hardly counts.

Plus the love story is just a million times better than the one from the whole Ramai trilogy, and SM3 did that the worst.

So yeah let's not equate this to SM3 simply because there were 3 villains in that one too. Oh and this Electro = Jim Carrey's Riddler too is also crazy. The Riddler loved Bruce Wayne because he loved him. And hated him because he didn't accept his business proposal straight away.

Electro loved Spider-Man for saving his life and really taking notice of him, and went villanous because he though Spider-Man tried to kill him (after he was clearly already going crazy).

So yeah this isnt' the best superhero movie ever made, but it's decent. It's no Spiderman 3 or Batman Forever. Not by a long shot.

To me the real disappointment of this movie was that we saw 90% of the action in all the trailers, and tv spots prior to the movie. That's my big complaint.

Unlike Captain America, which on a much lower budget managed to be action packed begninning to end, and only gave us a tiny taste of that in the trailers.

The marketing and budget control on TASM2 just both seemed out of control to me.

Might need to stop watching less trailers for movies then here on out

also i only watched the the 1 & 2 trailer and didn't bother with the various clips that got released on the net, Like the usual shit that happens these days.

Yeah, I would advise only watching teaser trailers from now on. It can cause huge disappointments otherwise, and harm your appreciation of the movie for what it is.

And honestly it's a stupid marketing plan. Look at Captain America:WS. The trailers looked exciting, but only showed a taste of the action, and as a result everyone was pleasantly surprised by that movie, and it's got so much positive word of mouth.

Whilst with TASM2 people are mostly disappointed after all those trailers and tv spots, and that's only going to cause negative word of mouth.

And like someone else here has said: It's Spider-Man! Do you really need that much marketing to sell it! Hell no. Poor business decision Imo, considering the estimated $150mill+ they've spent on marketing, and the negative word of mouth that's probably going to cause.

Fiers is the Gentleman. And, according to Wikipedia, appears in the novels where he assembles the S6.

I loved this movie! I thought they did a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of Spider-Man. I don't know where all the negativity is coming from. I also thought that this rendition of the GG was by far the best! The acting was strong and I love that they paced the story and gave time for development! They didn't just though mindless action scenes everywhere and Im thankful for that.

There is a lot to admire about this movie, and the general plot they are working towards with this series.

But I still feel this was a step down from TASM1. So am hoping they will fix a few things for the next one.

But then we have to remember they have already announced that this is a Quadrilogy, and not a Trilogy. So we're only half done atm.

Saying it's better than SM3 isn't really saying much, since SM3 was garbage.

IMO, quality wise:

SM
SM2 (interchangeable with SM)
ASM
ASM2
SM3

^ agreed. 'cept, i'd put SM2 above SM, and it's not close or at all interchangeable, imo.

I'd put TASM1 above SM1 any day of the week personally.

TASM1 was a forgettable borefest. SM1 wasn't that good either, but I remember more of it than the remake.

Other than that crane scene. Comedy ****ing gold.
