Didn't Bendis have the same kind of covers for his books?

Anyway, Hickman did say that LT would make an appearance, as well as IB, although that seemed to be a joke... and maybe he killed LT because of the people on Forumspring since it kind of seemed to be tossed in there nonchalant...

But if he was serious, I'm stoked for IB.

Yeah except it was only Thor who was defeated om the cover with Hulk holding Mjolnir...those really were dark times.

First issue I give it 8/10, love the art and the flow of the story I feel this will be epic

Thanos was weakened and was not ever defeated by the three teams. Phenomenal showing of power while weakened.

He was embarrassed and clearly defeated once he lost the CC power up, but not totally KO'd. It was actually one of the few sensible depictions of Thanos for a long time - powerful, but not powerful enough to take all the heavy hitters on that lineup. If they leave him at a more classic power level (before Starlin basically went nuts) and give him some better stories he could be interesting again.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this Infinity thing goes because it just might save Thanos as a character. But if the series turns out as bad as some other recent Marvel events or that Thanos mini then it's time to retire the character.

You think Bendis portrayed Thanos sensibly? 😆

Since when was it embarassing to be defeated by three teams (Avengers, FF4, GOTG), with over 20 heroes shown on panel? Not to mention the fact that Tony stated the fake cube may have damaged Thanos, mixed with the fact that Thanos couldn't control the cube properly, there's evidence the cube actually weakened him.

Basically it was the 3 or 4 heavy hitters that beat Thanos down. Maybe Hawkeye assisted. The rest would not even be registered by Thanos, I mean come on. It would be like if three or four really big guys beat you up while a dozen toddlers were running around your feet. Would anyone claim afterwards "Oh yeah, it took that entire team to take me down! 12+ guys just to put me on the ground!"

And yes, that is about where Thanos should be. He shouldn't be able to beat those guys together. Starlin made Thanos a really boring and stupid character who seemed to exist just to gratify young fanboys' (and Starlin's) juvenile power fantasies. I used to own almost all Thanos' appearances up to IG and some later ones, but later I started to wish the character would just get killed off for good.

Bendis does very little good stuff but that scene was fine.

Starlin's Thanos is one of the greatest character depictions of all time. You should hope that someone else will come close.

The cc weakened him. He was never ko'd despite Thor, Rulk, Hulk, etc. along with three of the best teams in comics wailing on a weakened Thanos.

You seem to ignore the context and the fact that heroes win at the end of the day.

Thanos made 1 billion at the box office. Haters are going to hate. He's the best villain in comics. 🙂

That's the whole reason it was such a success.

People really respond well to Thanos.

do you need a butthurt report card son ??

Also Giffen, Marz and DnA wrote Thanos just as powerful if not more than Starlin

Starlin always played up his intelligence more so than his overall power.

Thanos was one of the best villains. In the early days Starlin made him entertaining (a lot of Starlin's earlier stuff is pretty interesting - Warlock, Thanos, Captain Marvel, Dreadstar etc). Later on Starlin and Thanos both went off the rails. If Thanos had stayed dead after that classic ending where the spirit of Warlock killed him, it would have gone down as a great story and that would be that, but instead Starlin revived and ruined him as is the way of comics. He became one of those fanboy characters. The Giffen portrayal was interesting at times but not enough to make the character worthwhile again.

So far Infinity is quite good.

that's why Starlin gave him a huge power up

He was still humiliated. Thanos doesn't belong on his knees. He belongs standing over defeated heroes.
