No offense to Mr. Fitch, but he gives the reasons why the DCEU was so successful with their first five films: they rode of the success of Marvel and they had their whole stable of characters with which to work (two of which - Bats and Supes - are arguably the most popular superheroes ever).
I've liked what the DCEU has offered so far, but I'll admit all the problems everyone mentioned are legitimate beyond doubt. The first five movies have made more money than the five MCU movies because Marvel prepped the audience. Heck, if it wasn't for Iron Man 1 and The Dark Knight, the comic book movie sub-genre probably would still be like it was in the mid-2000's: niche titles (stuff like Sin City, Road to Perdition, and V for Vendetta) with a big name every few years (namely, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Batman).
Like he says as well, Marvel laid the groundwork by making b-listers (in terms of mainstream popularity) like Iron Man, Thor, and Cap household names. Hulk is the only MCU Avenger that was a household name before the MCU.
Why doesn't Mr. Fitch go into the fact of how Kevin Feige's approach has two Avengers movies in the top ten box office of all-time unadjusted for inflation and Justice League ain't gonna make HALF of Age of Ultron? And Age of Ultron is considered a mis-step of sorts for the MCU and is still the 7th highest grossing movie of all-time?
EDIT: Added my second paragraph.
