Just saying that post-coie Supes was not all that strong back during dos compared to later, save a few high end feats. Iirc he couldn't even reach lightspeed until the year 2000 or so.
I do agree that DoS era Superman wasn't as formidable as he would become later on. But, to his credit, he does have some impressive feats.
I'm more or less trying to preemptively play damage control before someone decides to "counter" that gas explosion incident with some PIS or blatant low balling for Bill. 😂
It's not smart to use low showings that contradicts common sense.
Superman has so many feats above a gas station that even considering the gas station is asinine. Bill has plenty of feats that contradict stupid low showings as well.
I'll argue this.
If Bill engages DD in melee then it won't go well for him on a majority basis.
But if he fights creatively and stays away for the most part then he can win a healthy majority.

I never really saw DoS Doomsday as being that impressive, if he showed up and attacked Superman in a comic 15 years later he would probably be sent packing in a few panels.

For example, if Thor is fighting Spider-man in a comic then Spider-man would look much faster. But if Thor was fighting Gladiator (who is much faster than Spidey) then it won't seem as Thor is that much behind.
Final example, the distance in physicality that WW, MM, CM, etc. was from DOS Superman is about the same distance as Superman 15 years later. Although Superman got an amp, other characters scaled with him for the most part.
So if DOS Superman fought Superman 15 years later then it would probably go nearly the same way (except Superman would fight smarter and more efficient). But Superma 15 years later would win without dying this time. But he would be badly injured.
I recall Superman beating stronger versions of Doomsday with much greater ease, in fact the last story arc in Action Comics before the reboot had Superman, Steel, Eradicator, Supergirl, and Superboy fighting tons of Doomsdays who were all stronger than the DoS version and specifically created to give them extra powers and this Doomslayer guy who was stronger than all of them.
well, if you drop him to that level, you'd need to drop the other jla'ers he manhandled. that's always my problem with dos--he was written at a time when superman was designed to be less. it's like inflation--over time superman's power has risen. over that same time, were he written with the same purpose, dos's powers would also be greater. and as i've said many times before--that era superman had some great feats as well. he could only fight the superman who was in front of him....

One of the most ridiculous stories ever imo.

I'm aware of that. It's an old hackneyed comic trope that I wish would die a horrible death. It's in no way limited to Doomsday, but several high profile team busters in general where they gradually lose effectiveness with every appearance.
Edit: Perhaps something could/should be said for the "heroes" getting better over time (something that Superman has alluded to a few times), not necessarily the villains becoming less effective.
