Superman is DCs Last Hope Against Marvel

Look around the internet, Superman is still the most recognized superhero around the world. 75 years will do that. Doesn't matter if you're a fanboy, a hater, young, old or even N. Korean. You see the the red/yellow 'S' symbol, you know.

And I already mentioned as much but it doesn't mean as much as it used to. You could show most of people the Ironman suit and they would know what it is as well, or Spider-man and they would know who it is as well.

It's not a matter of Superman going down in recognizably though, it's characters like Spider-man and Iron Man rising due to hugely successful films/marketing.

The red/yellow 'S' symbol still trumps them all though in terms of recognizably.

And I didn't say or mean to say he has lost a lot of recognition but it's the past the point where it matters. He isn't the only one and this generation doesn't care as much about him. Too many good options out there to get kids interested in them like Iron Man and Spider-Man and Batman.

No one's saying "Superman is the only worldwide recognizable superhero", just that he's still the most.

Critical thinking which apparently you're unable to do 🙂

Have you heard of shows like Smallville? It was pretty big (esp with the younger crowds) and only ended a couple years ago.

Superman Returns was only 7 years ago. While not a very good film, it was profitable and people went to go see it.

Comics and cartoons as well.

Edit: I see Darth Power already slapped you 🙂

I am able to do so. One just needs to think for oneself whereas you need to see it elsewhere on Wikipedia to make up your mind for you.

Smallville isn't that popular though. It had its own niche but not many casual fans were really drawn to the show. A really popular tv show to me is True Blood not Smallville.

Back to bowing before other male posters. You never learn.

On Tv Superman's actually had more popular exposure over the last 10 years than any of the Marvel heroes you've mentioned.

There are other mediums for the "current generation" than just the Big Screen.

That said even on the big screen it's not like Superman Returns flopped or anything. It was only rebooted because it didn't make the kind of big money Spider-Man, Batman and Iron Man make.

Smallville was not that popular.

Superman Returns was abysmal. It was a massive disappointment. Again, the mass appeal and success of marvel films is changing the landscape. Dc is clinging to what was whereas marvel is redefining the landscape itself.

I like how you searched and searched for the one article that supported your "Superman is done!" stance, yet didn't bother to read it 🙂

Talks about Superman declining, it's one fans POV and it still doesn't discredit that Superman is the world's most recognizable superhero 🙂

So in short, you ignored the greater information and blind-posted* something that doesn't support your biased stance, ie you failed again 🙂

*happens when you only read the title to an article 🙂

It is a bunch of people's,opinions which support my views here. Read the responses. Superman is declining whereas marvel is growing. It's simple that marvel owns dc. The cinematic lead own the big screen is so vast it's almost comical.

I'm right as always.

Facts: Superman's still the most recognizable superhero on the planet and he hasn't had a live-action film in 7 years 🙂

No, he isn't as it is Spider-Man but guess what here comes Iron Man. Dwight Howard also changed from Superman to Ironman as another example of the changing of the tide.

Dc clings to the past and what it had while marvel redefines the present building for the future.

😂 a basketball player's silly nickname means little. He'll probably be flipping back after MoS. Even though Shaq's deal was the Superman nonsense long before.

Yet Superman is still the most recognizable superhero worldwide /facts 🙂

That isn't the point. The point is IronMan is so well known he can do so whereas 30 years ago prior to the success of the movies this would not have happened.

Nope. Dc clings to the past while marvel dominates the present and builds for the future.

Dwight Howard was served with a cease and desist from Warner Bros. due to sucking so much. He didn't choose to stop using Superman, he legally had to switch to an inferior nickname because he was no longer worthy of being associated with Superman.

True story. Google it.

The reasoning isn't the reason I brought it up it was to show the landscape is changing due to IronMan's recent ascension into public eye.

That is exactly the point 🙂 It's not about "Superman sucks now". Howard wants to distance himself from Shaq, cos he looks like a poser. Funny part is, another Laker was nicknamed "Iron Man" before, so he's still a wanky poser 🙂

You really need to look into stuff BEFORE you post 🙂

Yet Superman is still the most recognizable superhero. Facts > you 🙂

You really like smileys for an older guy Thats kinda weird.

I never said it had anything to do with Superman it has to do with the landscape changing which is the point.

You can't even think for yourself you need a site to do so for you.

No, he used to be but he isn't anymore.

You really like to post BEFORE you research, that's pretty stupid for anyone of any age to do 🙂

You did in regards to your claim that Superman is declining. Which you are clearly wrong when you tried to use the Dwight Howard as example. It had nothing to do with Superman's notoriety/popularity (or lack there of), you were simply wrong again 🙂

Says the guy diarrhea-posting cos he only reads the title of articles and then dances when he's shown to be incorrect 🙂

Incorrect. Still holds the top spot, 75 years will do that 🙂

I don't need to copy and paste someone else's argument like you seem to do. I critically think for myself whereas you are apparently incapable.

It was an example to show the dynamic is changing not like my argument was based off of Dwight Howard's changing of his name as my main argument.

No, it doesn't and technology and change is favoring marvel not dc or Superman.

Talking about gross earnings.

The profit/loss it made is the studios problem. They were obviously expecting something like $700mill+.

But in terms of how many people went to watch it, it was more than the majority of superhero films.

Domestically, it didn't even break even.
