I don't really see the connection between 'hope' and Obi-Wan to be honest.
Maul is one ****ed up individual. His chance to get final and complete revenge may indeed be all the hope he needs.
But there is a more likely explanation that he saw Obi-Wan watching over (a new) hope.

Don't know why people are assuming it's Obi-Wan, first it's way to much fan service for Filoni's taste. Secondly we know that Maul's arc in Season 3 is directly tied to this and it will feature Dathomir and if apparently Maul still has revenge feelings towards Obi-Wan, his entire plot in TCW would be useless (killing of Satine). They've made it quite clear that the OT movies are a different story then they are telling in Rebels.
It's not fan service, it's finishing up a story thread satisfactory. Sure, Maul may have gotten some form of revenge (though I doubt it was enough for his taste) but Obi-Wan never got any resolution to the plot. It ends with Obi-Wan fleeing and having virtually no role in defeating Maul. Having Obi-Wan playing a major role in Maul defeat would be a satisfying conclusion to that entire plot line. Furthermore, it would tie he dual roles in the two trilogies together.
