Curry's Tournament Odds!

"Now THIS is Tourney-racing!"

About 8 hours late, but I got my shiny new tourney signature up. Hopefully it will be the first of a few, though that may be dependent on how well I do in the tourney.

I'm sorry, but were people confused when we outlined the Tourney stuff? 😛

This is an amalgam tournament, obviously there's going to be stuff that completely destroy the high-meta limit here. I'm not going to go into specific debates and have people recall their preps because some people feel its unfair that their opponent came up with an amalgam that went further beyond the high meta tier than their own amalgam did.

It doesn't matter what powers current Rogue was drafted with, ID's using a different route to access them. Power unlock is a big part of this tournament. I'm not going to touch his strat because people didn't think to match his drafts 🙂

There's a fine line between bringing high meta++ stuff and meshing into it. I'm going to look into the specifics here but people should be neither surprised nor outraged at the stuff being brought to the table here.

I did make a specific mention about Reed and Doom not being very good draft since their not allowed to bring stuff that is clearly way beyond the high-meta tier. As such I'm going to PM a few of you about stuff like that. There's a very legit concern that people are bringing top-tier stuff to the battlefield and not creating it.

OK Now I'm completely confused.

I got the impression from what you told me I was completely denied the ability of my amalgam to access information. I mean I had the mind of a character who with learned skills could simply know things about an entire city around him ( even things that someone with super hearing, infra red, ultra violet, xray, telescopic, and microscopic vision, and super smell could not). Plus access knowledge from distant cities or many at once, COMBINED with a power that allowed it's wielder to know every aspect of a beings life. What IMO was a perfect unlock to nigh ( obviously not complete) omniscience.

I didn't even touch on the abilities ( saving for later rounds) that this would have given me to completely alter a persons memories and therefore way they would react. I mean I have several scans of Vic using "Jedi like mind tricks" plus a couple of Tenison projecting his thoughts and separate ones of his memories directly into the mind of an someone. Peoples way of reaction is determined by the things they know to be successful, so if things that they remember being absolute fails ( and would therefore avoid) are suddenly in their mind the ways that were successful I could make an adversary job themselves out of battle.

The whole prep non prep side of things really didn't matter since really I could use Vic's illusions (without any unlock amp) to make an adversary fight phantoms while I made what I need on the battle field using the adversaries own knowledge of their weapons and it's shortfalls.

Naturally I assumed I'd be denied the altered memory aspect just as I was the access to my opponents complete knowledge and history and complete knowledge of the battlefield. As I saw it this also took away my ability to react before I was attacked ( ergo speed of opponent irrelevant) as well as the ability to direct my opponents actions with vastly enhanced misdirection.

As i saw it I lost 60% of my whole battle plan and would be stuffed for any other bouts. I mean all it left me was a guy with pretty good durability reasonable strength and speed who could teleport (maybe, wasn't even sure on that) generate blasts and shields (of which I though I was loosing the whole draw on the planet to power and vastly increase the level of) and heal ( again from what it seems I was loosing the ability to enhance this with a greater power source outside myself), with some mild illusions and mystic senses.

The whole reason I dropped out, was that I believed I actually DIDN'T get my "unlocked potential". Since I picked much lower character on the basis that the unlocks would exponentially increase their overall level from low meta to mid herald easily, loosing those seemed to me to leave me well out of anything. I mean I even had some planned use of showing Tenison using his ability to draw on his energy to power his physical capability (only used twice) enhanced by Vic's drawing on the planet to increase Shield's 40/50 ton strength and 60mph speed to something MUCH higher.

As far as I got from your match, you weren't actually "denied" anything other than counting everyone's prep bases for your character since he technically has none on his own which is ridiculous. Speaking of amping... well, it all depends on how believable it is made to judges. And nothing else.
All you were clearly denied is "teleport to random character base and grab his stuff" during the prep. The clairvoyance is still intact. So I think you may rethink getting back into this mess as long as you do not imagine loophole with tramp-type characters.

In regards to prep base.

The way we have managed tourneys up to this point as is. Either you have a prep base, or you don't. If you don't, you sit in a standard real life lounge with accesses to a table, chair, and reasonably priced snack machine provided by the tourney host. Well scratch the the reasonable priced, our host is anything but reasonable. Cheap bastarddisgustfist

The intent was built as so to avoid members from traveling the globe, reality, and time traveling in the race to grab items not standard to them which is what you tried here Beats.

Its common knowledge around here, but for guys new to the tournament scene I can see why the confusion.

he was trying to be wily and it backfired; the gun piece imbedding itself into his cheek bone

yeah, that should have been made more explicit for the new comers, i agree. hopefully boks decides to rejoin. only way to learn is to jump right in and now he's had more to watch so he should know better what's expected and how to go about making things work for himself.

So back to our lovely odds thread.

Id vs Chip - Clash of the Titans. The chips are stacked!
Charlotte vs Sin - The cat fight that never was. Everyone pays...
Digi vs Abhi - I see your Schwarts is as big as mine.
Leo vs Psycho - Nuh uh! uh Huh! Nuh uh! uh Huh!

i can only debate what's in front of me. what's a guy to do...? shrug

Nuh uh!

shut up. sneer

Id undoubtedly just pegged himself as the favorite. Chip may still pull an upset.

But here's the thing. Every tourney has some mega-plan that clearly takes things to the next level. In some, they win. In others, someone finds a chink in the armor, or counters it very well. I have no problem saying Id's just became the favorite, even as a competitor, because I also know it guarantees him nothing.

We're close to a better picture overall, but it's still far from complete.

I had no problem being challenged on using other bases during prep i pretty much expected that to be called. like i've said what I'm used to is for not calling it to cost votes because on other sites tourneys are voted on by the whole community and not assigned judges ( most of whom would not even know what the rules are from a single tourney debate, no not calling an opponent on an obvious breach is suicide)

But Curry pretty much told me I wouldn't have knowledge in PM's and en fact said "I would not even know I was facing the mind of Tony". when I replied saying I believed I had given a perfectly reasonable explaination as to how I could access greater knowledge he didnt reply to that point so I read that to say it was denied.

To me that would seem I was limited solely to the abilities as they are without the potential that merging them would gain.

my original thought was to use Arion's eye of Ra spell to unlock jarred's sight since as i saw it that was a power not his physicals to achieve a similar type of sight ( Since Jarred see's the fate of everything and through the illusions of reality). Using Arion's mind and GA Kent Nelson would have been a little less all seeing but leaned the same way ( fall back would have been Dr Occult's mind to achieve the same)

the fact that no e of them are technically telepaths ( Occult may be slightly different but he also has no. TP options) also eliminates the usual defenses to this type of thing.

^so are you going to continue in the tourney or not?

since it seems i'm not completely outclassed in every respect yeah.

the way it looked was that i'd brought a pocket knife to a bazooka fight and hadnt sharpened it.

provided Curry is ok with that of course.
also not sure how I feel about getting a free ride through a round. if Sin doesn't show would anyone like to throw up some arguments for her amalgam

i would for fun

not joking

My first tournament was with 2/3 of an amalgam that was drafted by someone else (Zod and Loki). I inherited it during drafts and picked the final 1/3 of the bunch (Apollo). And came in 4th place with it (out of 10). Which I consider to be a great feat of debating, because I literally knew nothing about the 2/3 that had already been drafted. I was working from internet bios, and nothing else.

Of course, this was before scans were necessary in tourneys, so a lot of it was BS. But it was still impressive imo, because I had absolutely nothing to go off of. Khellendros with Majestic wrecked me twice in that tourney...I had no answer for him. Knowing what I know of Loki now, I could've made a go of it. But at the time, I was completely in the dark. A shame too, because I barely used Loki, and basically punched my way to the semis. Loki is unequivocally the most useful of that lot for tourney purposes.

Anyway, it would be hilarious to see someone else adopt someone else's picks. But it probably wouldn't be fair.

I got wrecked in my first two tournament attempts here. My first time, I was in the same spot as Beats. Stuff that was approved in private, was ruled out in public etc.. Hell I came in with the same confidence too. I did will in other forums, why would it be any different here...right!?!

And despite being in the whole of a mess that I was in, and toughed it out. I realized that I needed to learn, what works, and what doesn't.

So don't feel bad Beats. I was you once.
