One thing I never understood about people that complain about man of steel are people that say superman destroyed the entire city. No one seems to complain about iron man destroying half of the city in efforts to subddue the hulk. Zod clearly exclaimed that his intentions were to destroy everything superman cared about and superman was also clearly unable to separate zod from the city.

You're forgetting that IronMan 1st scanned the city looking for a suitable place to lure Hulk away from the general masses of people....taking the battle to the empty skyscraper still under construction & joking on how fast he could buy the building before demolishing it.
Whereas Supes head no hesitation punching Zod through shopfronts & office buildings without prior checking to see who was in them.
Big difference.
And considering the next movie is based on Supes' collateral damage, it is an important issue & not just fans being over critical.

That was all a bit on the nose tbh, and probably partly due to the loud MOS complaints. I doubt without all those obvious "I'm looking out for civilian" lines people would have complained Pre-MOS.
As for MOS Superman could have been using his X-Ray vision every time he punched a Krytonian through a building, picking spots with no civilians as best he could. But I'd personally prefer they not waste screen time with that.
Why not just assume they're not trying to kill civilians and perhaps actually trying to save them? Given they are superheroes.

People act like the destruction and neck snapping were the reasons MOS was bad
Define bad?
It was an entertaining enough movie, and most the general audience seems to have enjoyed it.

Well to keep it simple,
Bad pacing, forced emotional scenes, dreary desaturated atmosphere, religious symbolism, no likeable characters (no one you are actually rooting for), silly plot points and desisions, slow methodical pace, then over the top destruction porn with no sentimental connection to any of the combatants. No real feeling anyone is ever in mortal danger, the essense of superman is absent from this movie, kids probably left the theater not even wanting to buy the Acton figure, when in fact this is a comic book character mainly for kids not some ultra mature serious edgleord, Louise Lane being in places she has no business being just for the sake of trying to make her character relevant, etc (might be forgetting a few things)
The general audience thing is used by some( Golgo) to try to defend this movie . IMO it's just a way of trying to move the goal posts.
Almost all review sites have this movie at below average. Average at best. Finding one exception or a specific site that that is the overall minority doesn't make it so.
I'm sure if I look hard enough I can find a website that loved Batman & Robin, or Green Lantern.
Well it's got over 50% on RT. So technically more Reviewers gave it a positive review than a negative one.
Also I tend to ignore critics man. They gave Superman Returns good reviews!
Only if fans and critics alike give a movie bad reviews do I take the reviews seriously. Like with the new Fantastic Four, which I didn't bother watching. Now that shows all the signs of an Awful movie which everyone hates. MOS- Not so much. That's more of a "Hate it or Love it" kind of movie.
