Watchmen is the greatest comic book movie ever made. Period.
I don't know what Watchmen was like for people who never read it, seeing it for the first time. After decades of finding the right way to translate it, Snyder just did it literally from the page. But too much reverence led to boredom for fans like me, and incomprehension for some seeing it for the first time. I remember one famous soliloquy by Rorschach after the funeral for Eddie Blake, in the driving rain through a montage, and what's he saying is getting distorted by the music overwhelming the montage - I was thinking, I know what he's saying and I'm barely getting it because of the sound mixing here; how the hell are any of these non-fans following it? Plus he upped the violence of an already violent comic to unnecessary levels because he'd gotten his hard-R rating, and it just felt gratuitous.

To be fair to him, I've never seen the Director's Cut version that followed. The film might breathe a little better in that one.

The thing is despite panel to panel copying it totally missed several points from the comic. Not that I like the comic but I don't dislike it like the movie. Likef the changed ending though

True, I liked the accuracy of the costumes and in a few other areas though.

He was bucking the trends of people like Bryan Singer and his leather-clad costume reconstructions which I appreciated.

Best part of Watchmen was the opening montage. Loved that.

Otherwise, I wasn’t really a fan of the film. Though, TBF, I’m not a fan of the comic either and I preferred the film’s take of "Manhattan" laying waste to New York rather than the octopus monster.

It also felt a little cramped as if everythong was either stuffeed in or steretched out

They obviously couldn't put everything in from the comic or it would have been 5 hours long. Of course they missed points from the comic. 😬

I'd never read the comic and I thought the film was a masterpiece. And I watched it with shitty quality, with headphones, in the same room as the TV, pn a tiny laptop. A while later me, my brother and my dad watched it together on my dads projector (they'd never read the comic either) and we all agreed it was the best comic book movie thus far. Nothings topped it and when we talk about it we all agree it's not even that close.

I also heard the soliloquy, dunno if you got a bunk copy or what. 😖hrug:

Before Nolan did it with Batman, Bryan Singer started it with X-Men, which is still my favourite way of seeing a comic related movie - taking the basic concept from the comic and putting it into as realistic a world as possible, to show how something like this actually happens in reality. He played it safe with the costumes, but the foundation is still there and now more and more colour has come in and it's still plausible.

Watchmen was alternate reality, a 1985 that never happened so events in history can be changed and distorted to fit the look and feel of the film.

Getting back to Batman V Superman, the fans ratings are coming in and it's at a 78% atm. Not bad. Certainly better than the 32% critical rating.

I saw it three times in the theatre, always the same. I could nitpick on other things about the film, but this isn't the forum for it.

I think V For Vendetta is the best translation of an Alan Moore comic to screen. Maybe because there was more translation and updating of the source material for the film (it wasn't British paranoia in the Thatcher years anymore, but the post War On Terror era), rather than the frozen in time feeling of Watchmen.

Was it the same theatre though? Like I said, I watched it with shitty quality, with headphones, in the same room as the TV, which was on, on a tiny laptop and heard it.

My view in short:

If you liked MoS, you probably aren't going to like this.

Cavill was boring.

Eisenberg was unbearably annoying.

Affleck was great, best part of the movie.

Gadot was surprisingly good too.

Man Of Steel got an A- rating from fans leaving theatres in 2013. It sounds like this film might be on track for a B to B- rating this time. More positive than the critical reviews perhaps, but not a good sign for the box office haul it needs. Prometheus and Mad Max: Fury Road only got B ratings from audiences (and the critics were much more positive towards them) and their worldwide box office haul was only in the $400 million range.

I'm expecting Rotten Tomatoes score to go up and IMDB to go down once it officially releases.
Looks like I was right. Fan voting has BvS at a 78% on RT and IMDB Score has dropped down to 8 so far. I think it's going to drop lower though....

Despite this being a Batman and Superman film you'd rather have a great WW. 😂
