That your official review, after seeing it?

Pretty much.

The movie had a lot of potential and good themes/angles.

Unfortunately they crammed too much crap into it. It definitely hurt it.

Lex Luthor's actor needs to get shot. What a horrible take on the character. Why can't we just get a Francis Underwood(House of Cards) take on the char...who just so happens to be played by the same actor who already played Lex.

Its just...too much. Feels incredibly rushed.

Had it just been Batman AND Superman with a couple of cameos it would have been amazing because a lot of the reasoning behind their conflict was spot on. Afflek was a solid Bruce Wayne/Batman and Cavill was good.

I also grew sick of the MoS theme, which I loved in MoS.

This has a chance of 'matching' Green Lantern.

I trusted you, Golgo...

Okay, just got back from watching it. Here is my quick review:

Spoiler:

Pros -
I though Cavill was pretty good. I think any "woodenness" is really Snyder's fault.

Affleck was fine as Batman. Definitely the best fighting Batman we've ever had for sure.

Gal Gadot wasn't terrible. She again wasn't as good as some people said, but she DID elicit a good cheer from the audience when she came in the fray in her outfit.

The actual fight between Batman and Superman was pretty satisfying.

Some other actors were good. Jeremy Irons was a nice take on Alfred; and despite having bad dialogue at times Amy Adams was good.

CONS -

As I expected, Jesse Eisenburg was the worst part of this movie. At one point in the theater, most of the audience laughed at him....and not in a good way. He makes you feel uncomfortable watching him. It wasn't pretty.

Doomsday was awful. Looking like a super-powered cave troll wasn't the worst part. It was the excessive amount of cgi electricity surrounding him at all times during the fight scenes. You could never get a nice clear look at what was going on. Also, the fight was so dark....it just wasn't good.

The cameos of the other characters felt INCREDIBLY forced...they tried to make them organic but it just wasn't. Also, the dream sequences were out of place. Many people didn't understand what was going on. I heard someone behind me have to explain it to their friends what it meant.

The general pacing of the movie was bad. Too slow and haphazard at times, and too break-neck at the end. It was also oppressive. There was almost no joy whatsoever in the entire movie. Incredibly bleak.

There is a lot of other stuff I can talk about but I'm gonna go watch some tv.

Initial Reaction score: 6.5 /10

All right, just got home, and...

The movie isn't terrible, and it isn't great. It has highs, it has lows, and ends up somewhere in the middle.

Mostly non-spoilers:

Affleck is excellent. He slips between Bruce Wayne and Batman so effortlessly that he makes it look easy. He said he's been waiting for years to play the character, and it shows. He is definitely the high point of the movie.

Cavill is... He's all right. He doesn't get a lot to do, and what time they spent having him be worried, they really should have thrown in some light to balance the dark.

Gadot... She's all right. Her accent seems to vary wildly at times, and at first I thought it was her trying to put on different ones for different people, but it ended up feeling inconsistent.

Eisenberg... Now, I will defend this man's ability as an actor, but Lex wasn't well written, nor well performed at all. I had expected something different from the Clancy Brown version, but they went way overboard with it to the point that it just didn't work. Now, if they reveal later that

Spoiler:
he'd been having the same dreams as Batman, which they do hint at, then maybe that explains why he's so manic
. Otherwise, it's another bad Lex by a good actor.

Irons: Dry wit, likeable character. No complaints at all.

The movie itself? The first couple of acts were actually decent, and the scripting was okay. But it quickly became apparent that whoever was writing the movie only had a vague idea of what Superman and Batman really were, and the movie suffered because of it. It's a decent screenplay that suffers once the movie gets to the "superheroes doing superhero things" parts.

The plotting, the pacing, and the way the score was used, and the bad sound in general hurt it. The editing wasn't great.

Snyder does carry a lot of the blame, but at the same time, he's been given far too much freedom. He's done his best work when he's been reined in, and sadly, he just wasn't in this movie. The latter parts of the movie feel like they were trying to be too clever, too grand, and not all of it works, and a bad script doesn't help.

So yes, the movie has ups and downs. The good and the bad balance each other out, but it IS better than Man of Steel (regardless of what you think of that film).

And for any Marvel people, it's a good deal better than several of those movies too.

My last comment is on Doomsday. Not a fan of the design, though

Spoiler:
it did improve some the more he adapted. He was too big also, size-wise
.

Okay, spoiler talk:

Spoiler:
Was that Flash in Batman's dream?

I didn't believe they'd have the balls to do a full on DOS, but they did it, and while I wasn't a huge fan of the final fight, it was all right. Diana was amusing.

I have to agree with this. The Rotten Tomatoes rating is too low, IMO. I thought it was going to be a giant cluster-blam- of epic proportions, but it just didn't focus enough on what we came to see. It also didn't give enough for Henry Cavill to work with again. One of the most disappointing parts of the movie was when

Spoiler:
the Senate meeting room blew up before Supes even spoke a word.
That was the perfect time for the movie to dive into his character and the missed it for an explosion.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was pretty fucking awesome.

Minor fanboy gripes aside, it's 8.5 out of 10, easy.

I can't understand all of the backlash.

Also, BvS Batman beats the shit out of any other live action Batman, easy.

Some of the shit Batman did in the film was

Spoiler:
ripped straight from the Arkham video game series.

Better than MoS?

Yes.

I'll probably go see it then. 👆

My main gripe is that Superman still has no credible personality as yet. He literally has no dialogue in this movie at all. That frowny face he constantly makes...it's either he's stumbling to find the words to say or he's just plain annoyed & disgusted at having to help/save humanity all the time.

There was some frustrating scenes with him where I honestly wanted to yell at the screen for him to say something.

Cavill just has no personality.

He has been boring in everything I've seen him in.

I thought he was good in Man from Uncle, but yeah, he was very under-used in this movie.

Yeah, talk about wasting a great actor.
