So I'm just in from seeing it.
It wasn't good.
It's a film that has the feeling that it was written by committee. Like they had a checklist of things they wanted in it, sat around a table and thought of some vague ideas on how to get them all in and then given it to a writer and said "fill in the blanks"
I didn't think it was possible for a film to be both too long and too short. I'd love to think there's a longer, more coherent version that pulls the ideas together more successfully. That it was meant to be a 3 and a half hour epic and some executive intervened and said "you need to cut an hour to get a feasible cinema release" and so it was chopped and edited to within an inch of its life.
But the editing isn't the only issue. Visually it's like it's been made by two directors and then thrown together. Usually, for Snyder's faults, you can at least rely on his movies looking great. This only has a handful of scenes and frames that make you think "that looks awesome"
I don't even know where to start with Bruce Wayne's dream sequence. The fight choreography is just horrendous. It made the batman/bane fight look good.
The single most ridiculous part of the movie is the reason why Batman and Superman stop fighting. I read the small spoiler for it before I saw the film and thought surely that's a joke. Surely it must be something more substantial. Nope. It really is
Spoiler:
Because their mothers have the same name
As for characterization. We know about Clark from MoS so no need to go into him.
Wayne's motivation for wanting to kill superman are already known from the trailers which makes the reason why he becomes "friends" with superman in record time as even more ridiculous. It's like
Spoiler:
your alien battle killed hundreds of my employees and demolished my building and killed thousands of innocent people...but your mum has the same name as my mum so I'll go save her for you because...you know...it'll be cathartic for me or something
For those who don't mind being spoiled that's where the warehouse scene in the trailer comes in
Spoiler:
It's batman saving Martha Kent from Luthors goons...which in itself brings in something even more ridiculous. Why did superman even need batman to rescue Martha? If he was fast enough to fly from wherever he was to catch Lois after Lex throws her off the roof then he was fast enough to rescue Martha and get to the ship where lex is resurrecting Zod into Doomsday. It can't be because Batman had injured him with the kryptonite because he'd already recovered within seconds of it anyway.
Wonder Woman is essentially pointless although I've a feeling the set up for her movie will be similar to Captain America with it being set considerably in the past. The footage of the other 3 is just shoe-horned in for the sake of it. It perhaps would've worked as a post credits scene but it's forced in for the sole reason of Bruce Wayne's "we need to find and unite them" speech.
I didn't like Lex's deranged personality but I did like how he manipulated the fight between the 2 heroes.
Back to the visuals. Doomsday. Oh dear. No no no no no. Terrible. Just terrible.
Spoiler:
only issue with the movie ready is that it's 3 movies crammed together where a sequel to Mos, a new batman and the team movie would have been far superior. The basis for all three are there but they sacrifice fleshing those 3 stories out by fitting them all I to the time of just one.Lex luthor was a good character but eisenberg's inability to act hindered it from being a truly good villain. Lex simply doesn't act like that, even a junior lex shouldn't.
Mos 2 would have been decent if it was allowed to exist and that may be the biggest crime committed
Some other things that I didn't like.
Spoiler:
Yes, Batman does indeed kill people; and he does brand them which is stated that if you have the brand it's a death sentence once you get into prison...so yah. If he doesn't blow you up in his batmobile, or shoot you with your own weapon, or stab you in the chest and throw you down a 1 story hole in the ground.....then he'll make sure you die by Bat-branding you. Sigh. Fk Hack Snyder....seriously. But other than That Batman was pretty cool. And let's face it, the fact that Batman and Superman don't talk to eachother before trying to brutally kill each other.... Batman is right about to kill Superman and all it takes to change his mind is Superman say " You have to save Martha"....Yep, Batman goes from full on Murder mode to "we're bros for life" all because Superman's Mom and Batman's mom have the same name.....Ugh. There were quite a few scoffs in the theater and some chuckling when that happened. There are a lot of other things, too many to name to be honest.
One last note though; and I've already stated this; But Lex Luthor. Whoever cast Eisenburg as Lex needs to have their comic book movie card revoked for life. He was AWFUL in every possible way. His mannerisms, motivations and pretty much anything else you can say about him were unbearable. He was a cartoon in a movie that takes itself WAY too seriously. He stood out like a sore thumb, and the movie suffered for it. Not sure why they went with that portrayal but it wasn't a good move... anyway, yah.
I still think people should watch it and see for themselves but I cannot give it higher than a 6.5 at the moment.
Just saw this and movie was a mixed bag. Loved Batman and Alfred scenes. Ben was a great Wayne and did a great job. Cavil was ok but seemed depressed too often.
Gadot was ok as Wonder woman. Her role could have been better with another actress but she was average.
Eisenberg was annoyingly goofy in this as I expected from the trailer and awful as Lex Luther. He comes off as having no charisma and like a worm
He was the weakest link by far.
Doomsday fight was dark, bad and hard to make out. Entire third act felt patched together. Ugh...weird....some enjoyable scenes between Batman and Supes, but don't really want to watch a second time.
I'll just sum it up without any spoilers. Meh ville. No heart to the film. The fight between Batman and Superman was poorly done. I didn't care for Ben Affleck. I didn't think he was terrible but he didn't stand out at all. Superman was just there in the film if that makes any sense. Lex wasn't as bad as I thought he would be but he wasn't good either. Wonderwoman I thought was nicely done. Short role but she did the role Justice.
Doomsday was god awful. I cannot believe anyone thought he looked good or that the fight was handled well. The film took forever to get to the battles near the end and I couldn't wait for this film to end. All in all meh ville. No pulse to this film aka no emotions.

Definitely. Just as a lot of people feared. The first half of the film was just a rush of disparate scenes.
I honestly felt the first half was stronger than the second one. Though I really enjoyed the fight between Supes and Bats.

I liked that scene with Momoa. You didn't like it?
It wasn't a bad scene. My problem with Momoa isn't him as an actor, it's that they cast him to play Aquaman and are changing the character to suit Momoa.
If they wanted a diversity character, then there are plenty of non-white characters they could have used instead.

I forgot about that. Snyder should've cast him as Lobo.
