Looking at X-Men Apocalypse's box office with a 40something% on RT, also having a huge drop in its 2nd weekend, and it being a film many people seem to be raving about, BvS's box office ultimately wasn't That bad relatively speaking. Especially given there seems to have been a general decline in how much these movies make now compared to what they were making 1-2 years ago.
That said both movies would have made much more if they received better critical reception and if they were better received by a broader general audience.

You not seen Deadpool? Man that was one fun film. Got the character and look true to the source material for once.
Colossus was also done pretty well in that. As in, he was actually Russian. And was proper Mr. Nice Guy.
