Saw it. On the one hand I kind of liked and appreciated what they were going for, but on the other hand it just becomes almost completely incoherent and nonsensical. But it has a sense of humor and is fun to look at. Just sit back and enjoy the visuals. But I think it would be for the best if this franchise just terminat--uh, i mean stops.

They are planning to use this to kick off another trilogy. And despite the quality of the film, it still made over 300 million (more than twice the budget) so chances are they will proceed with the 2 sequels they have planned. I agree with you though. The idea was interesting, but they made somewhat of a hash of it.
Spoiler:
Not to mention those idiots trapped themselves in 2017 in the end, so the timeline is totally f***** again in anyways.
Yes, of course they were trying to spark another series of films. But I saw a blurb article a few weeks ago about movies like this: the execs have some tough decisions to make as far as how to proceed because it hasn't been an extremely successful film financially. It's moderately successful. So we'll see, maybe they can continue by dropping the budget a little bit.
But lord, I hope they don't... because if they do I'll probably feel the need to sit through it, and at this point, I'm not sure that I would want to... lol
**** yes, China!!

It's not that simple. They keep the largest share of domestic sales. International is much less and varies country to country. I believe they get the smallest % in China and that part of the world.
And it's done badly domestically. Made about half it's budget domestically. Then there's marketing costs to account for.
In any case $300mill+ WW isn't very impressive for a blockbuster with today's ticket prices and in today's massive international market.
However it's looking like China will take the world wide gross to close to or over $400mill, which will probably be enough to warrant sequels.
I'd personally prefer an Arny free reboot. But let's just hope the sequel gets a lot more interesting story wise.

Arnold was actually one of the best things about this reboot. I mean, I know that's not necessarily saying much, but still.. heh.
So can someone explain to me why John Connor
Spoiler:
suddenly became bad? Was it simply because the sinister machine nanotech got into him and scrambled his brain? Or was he just a nanotech machine replica of John?

He was the best actor in the film. But like you said that doesn't say much. Kyle was terrible. That doesn't mean I don't want Kyle, it means I want a better version of Kyle. One more like the original.
Whilst with Arny, he was good, but still feel like his character keeps getting forced into the story, just for the sake of having Arny in it.

Hopefully the latter. Changing the mythology of Connor like that really annoyed me.
Yeah, I agree... Kyle sucked. And I didn't really like Emilia Clarke much as Sarah Connor either. They definitely lacked chemistry.

This is all true enough. Admittedly, I don't really tend to follow a film's financial success in much detail. But with the China push it should make enough overall that they will probably try to force some more sequels down our throats. I personally just found it to be too all over the place, and there are bits that don't make much sense in terms of the overall narrative. I enjoyed it from a visual perspective though.
I think they feel they have to shoehorn Arnold into almost every film because they think it's what the audience wants, and because he is basically the face of the franchise (ask people what is the first thing they think of when you mention the films and the vast majority will bring up Arnold). I love Arnold but they didn't use him very well in this film. Emilia Clarke is also no Linda Hamilton, and I've already stated how I feel about Jai Courtney. Ideally, if they do proceed to make more films, they should find a good way to retire Arnold from the franchise, and pass the reigns on to the next generation (hopefully a differently cast generation). He is getting too old and they can't keep CGIing things.
