For me the Quicksilver scene in XMA easily tops the one in DoFP. Granted, it was dragged out a little longer than it needed to be. The Phoenix unleashed scene was okay, but I agree that it wasn't the best example. Scenes like the prologue, Apoc recruiting the horsemen (his initial moments with Storm, transforming Angel's wings, tapping into Magneto's anger/angst at the holocaust area, etc), and the confrontational moments between Charles and Apoc, were easily among the most memorable to me.
The younger X-Men I even enjoyed too. Cyclops not being complete fodder is still a step up (from his treatment in X2 & 3), ya gotta admit. Some of the other X-Men's abilities I felt were portrayed a bit more properly too, like Beast's strength with him being able to throw cars and stuff (finally).
The two DCEU movies had some enjoyable moments I could praise-mention too, but at the end of the day, even the worst of Singer is more salvageable than Synder post-MoS, for me. That and I generally hold DC to a higher quality standard, so I just couldn't enjoy like BvS anywhere as much as some of you.
Obviously, we're not all going to agree as to what the worst comic film of the year was, but as long as people aren't putting me down for liking Apocalypse or anything (like many did to those who liked BvS), I don't care.

I guess the Phoenix unveiling wasn't epic on a grand scale, but I went into that movie totally blind (not having read any reviews or such) and when she showed up, it was a very cool moment for me.
Fair enough.

Cyclops not being fodder was nice, but they got his character pretty much wrong bar his eyebeams and his initial reluctance to use his powers (which was understated even then). The tree scene is really the only part that stood out for me.
I'm not afraid to admit I expect more from an X-Men movie, so I judge them a little more harshly. Even taking that in to account, I just don't think it was that good.
I watched Independence Day 2 not long after it, and I felt much of the same reaction: Stuff was happening on-screen, but I didn't feel at all invested in it. Singer, imo, never really cut it in the first place, but now more than ever are his shortcomings exposed. As a director he's not untalented, but I seriously think the superhero genre just doesn't suit him.
And remember, Singer also made Superman Returns.

Singer throws out the possibility En Sabah may not be dead.
Fair enough @ Pr.
As for Apocalypse being brought back, I'm glad the possibility was raised, but I'd only really want it if he's handled differently and better. Didn't Singer say he was taking another break from X-Men anyway? That gives me some hope, in which case. This movie was a bit subpar, but not franchise-destroying like X3. X-Men (and Apoc if I'm lucky) can still come back better if someone else is involved again.
Now that it's out, are the bonus/deleted scenes for this film any good? Was thinking about getting it digitally, partly for those.
I first saw X-men: Apocalypse about a year ago. Fantastic super-hero film! I really enjoyed the film, despite not being a huge fan of all of the previous X-men films (with the exception of X-men 2 (2003) ). This is definitely my favorite X-men film - at this point.
I really liked the epic scope of this film; also, the physical appearance of Apocalypse was quite similar to what we've seen in the comic, despite being a lot smaller (except when he was in Xavier's dream/nightmare); I'm a purist when it comes to movies that adapt comics, so this was good to see. Apocalypse was an amazing villain, i.e.very evil, corrupt, and extremely powerful. The scene when he disarmed all of the world's nuclear weapons was amazing; as were the scenes when he destroyed various cities/buildings.
I liked the Punk Rock Storm (taken from the '80's Uncanny X-men comic); Psyloke (sp?!), and Angel with the metallic wings.
Being an '80's kid, I really liked the setting (1983) and all of the '80's references, including the younger X-men coming out of Return of the Jedi & discussing the film, as well as the very cool scene when Quicksilver (Magneto's son) quickly saves all of the X-men from the disintegrating mansion to the tune of the iconic tune Sweet Dreams (are made of this) by the Eurythmics - I remember all the radio play this song got back in '83 - very cool!
Also, I'm not taking into account any of the previous X-men films when watching this one - it's too confusing trying to figure out where this stands in the continuity. So, as far as I'm concerned, this was a stand-alone film (though X-men: Days of Future Past was obviously referenced here).
My only complaint is that it would have been cool if we had seen Apocalypse being huge in actuality, as he is in the comic & as he appeared in Xavier's mind when they were fighting. But, it's possible that they only showed him being huge in the dream for stylistic purposes...
