My characterization of the situation is spot on

If the poor stopped voting for Democrats, they would be dropped like a hot potato by the Democrats.

The welfare extension is far more complex than the way Democrats like to propagandize.

The only argument against welfare extension is the welfare fraud that takes place. Republicans are fine when rich corporations take advantage of tax loop holes, but when a poor person takes advantage of food stamps to eat its an atrocity.

The poor people vote for democrats because they are in favor of social welfare and higher taxes on the rich.

I am for slashing Food Stamps. I like my socially unequal lessers to be rail-thin, so that the police defending my rights to own means of production/living can better detain them when they protest.

The Demarcates are not poor, and they do not get their funding from the poor. They are rich, and they get their funding from the rich. When they say they want to tax the rich, they are lying to you.

Both Demarcates and Republicans are for the rich. I think the Demarcates are just better liars.

Also, Democrats, while similarly rich and not as different from Republicans as many think, still pander to the lower income bracket and lower-middle because they champion social programs more than the Republicans. The Republicans, however, have become more and more about fear mongering, and pander to the old and the conservative, both of who can't stand the idea of changes.

But until Colbert runs for office, just can't bring myself to vote.

My mother was on food stamps back in the 80s when she was recently divorced and had 3 children, under 10, to raise. She tried it for a month or two. Hated it. Stopped using it. Worked her ass off until she got through college.

My mom got divorced and is raising me and my sis, and putting my brother through college. She absolutely refuses to use food stamps. More Americans should be like that

I see no reason why anyone in a bad financial situation should abstain from foodstamps out of some sense of pride, especially if they have children. Take whatever advantage you can get in life.

Heck, I've been making six figures (in USD) since last summer and I'm currently living with my parents without any expenses save for food, and I would take food stamps.

For some people, the tax breaks and tuition breaks (including grants) are enough. They like to come halfway by working full time.

If you're more than capable of working and going to college, while having children, why take advantage of the system? 🙂 Save that money for someone else.

It seems odd to you but what people like my and Firefly's mothers are doing (or did) is saving the money for those mothers (or fathers) that are in shittier situations. So maybe they have to work a bit harder than most people. If we're honest, that type of attitude is more communist than using the system because it saves the money for comrades that could use it more, haha.

It's society which grants you freedoms and luxuries you otherwise wouldn't have. It is all members of society as a collective whole that allow for your success. It's only proper to give back when you're in a position to do so.
