^^^same situation, as it’s an easy fix in both cases.
Recast and keep going.

Yup.
I’m w. you on this one.

I suppose at this point they have nothing to lose if they recast. The writers are already pandering and promising to hire more black and brown writers(I don't care what color one's skin is as long as they write a good story)

I do feel bad though that nobody at the CW seems to have his back at all. Though not every cast member has come out and made a statement, so it's possible some are supporting him in private but are aware the mob would descend on them if they did it publicly. It is possible for there to be nuance here. You can say you don't agree with the jokes he made, but that you don't think it should cost him his job(and likely his entire career too). The punishment is not proportional to the "crime".

The funny thing is on the show his character commits perjury, plants evidence, etc. Ends up paying for his crime and is redeemed. The Flash Family gives him a second chance and he eventually becomes a part of that family.

Yeah, the show talks a good game, but irl, not so much on second chances, eh?

Like I said, not a fan of these situations. Everyone says ****ed up shit and are liars if they say they don’t, including the ppl who immediately call for guys like this to get fired.

What's baffling to me is reading articles on various websites that are defending the move to fire him when these same places essentially threw a fit when James Gunn was fired.

In fact a lot of people at the time tried to frame it as evil right wingers trying to take down James Gunn. It'd be nice if people could be consistent.

PPL -are- consistent. Consistently douchey. 😛

How do you know the people that were pro-Gunn are the same people that are anti-Sawyer though? Different teams of people that worked together too; tough noogies, but not everyone's the same/equally forgiving. Both of the aforementioned guys said some cringy indefensible shit, only one came out less fortunate in the end.

Still don't like this anymore than the rest of ya, but is what it is.

Actually, i think Gunn came out quite fine...!

This is a fair point, sites have different writers. But then this just means those who came out in defense of Gunn are not defending Hartley being fired they are just staying silent.

Though there was a big backlash to the news of James Gunn being fired, as opposed to the news of his comments. We just aren't seeing that same response, even from within the comic book community.

Yes, he got the sequel to Suicide Squad (which I was happy about) and then got hired again for Guardians of the Galaxy 3(I was also happy).

On a side note I hope DC eventually has him do movies about the New Gods.

I was thinking theres no hypocrisy because Gunn was rehired by Disney and Sawyer fired by CW.

But now that I think about it, WB/DC jumped at the chance to hire Gunn, but have got rid of this small time actor without blinking.

Not sure about that. Saying f***ed shit in private is one thing, but on Twitter?

And this was really messed up shit.

But I agree the Flash’s message of second chances is out the window in a real life situation.

I bet they regret destroying the other universes now. They could have just brought in another version of Ralph.

Oh yeah the twitter thing? Stupid.
My point though, is that everyone says the same shit, regardless.

I know it’s a silly stance to take, but, it’s just how I feel.

It's true. And it sucks cuz nothing will change this. Given the current atmosphere even if they wanted to undo it...it would create a shit storm.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but unfortunate and unnecessary.

^^^amen, brother.

I don't believe it's any more alike the James Gunn situation than on a superficial level.

That said, fandoms for a lot of these shows are easily as toxic as people say the likes of Star Wars are. They're mental. I'm not surprised none of the actors came out in support of him, as they'd be on the chopping block next. And these are people that likely wouldn't be able to take it and go somewhere else either.

On a tangent, but: Flash is pretty much the only CW DC show I like anymore. Legends, Batwoman and Supergirl have all tanked in quality imo. Stargirl is good though.

You’re missing out on Legends.

I watched it all, but I don't plan to watch the next season. I respect them for not even pretending they aren't just a wacky sci-fi comedy anymore, but there just aren't any characters for me to get invested in anymore. Even Astra, who did shake things up, kinda just fell flat by the end for me. And Constantine is wasted.

I kept going when Stein left. I kept going when Ray left. Unless they add someone new, it just doesn't interest me anymore. If you do though, that's cool.

Fair enough.

But man, I hated Astra. She was just a whiny mommy issues waste of space right up to the end.

lol.

And I just realised I forgot about Black Lightning...
